Default Led Zeppelin to confirm reunion

Rock group Led Zeppelin are expected to announce a one-off reunion concert.
Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones, who split after drummer John Bonham died in 1980, will get back together.

Led Zeppelin sold more than 100 million albums in the US alone

The trio have not performed live for 19 years. They are expected to be joined by Bonham's son Jason on drums.

Led Zeppelin's pioneering heavy rock made them one of the most popular and influential bands of all time. The show is due to take place at London's O2.

Promoter Harvey Goldsmith will make the announcement at the 20,000-capacity venue, formerly known as the Millennium Dome, on Wednesday.

The news is likely to spark a huge rush for tickets as devoted fans around the world scramble to get into what could be the band's last show.

The concert is expected to coincide with the release of a new two-CD best of compilation, Mothership, on 13 November.

Uncut magazine writer Chris Roberts told BBC Radio Five Live: "A younger generation - as well as the people who might remember Led Zeppelin from the first time around - are very excited about this.

"Reunion tours are big at the moment - The Police, Genesis, etc - but this is the one most people really didn't think would happen.

"They're pretty much the Picasso of heavy rock. Led Zeppelin's albums have certainly lasted the test of time and they're pretty much the template of heavy rock at its best."

    'Millions' rush for Zeppelin gig

The surviving band members have not played together for 19 years
An estimated 20 million people rushed to register for tickets to see Led Zeppelin as soon as the band announced their reunion, promoters have said.
The remaining members of the legendary rock group will play a one-off show at the 20,000-capacity O2 arena in London on 26 November, they said on Wednesday.

The concert's website has struggled to cope with demand, and organisers have asked fans to be patient.

Registration for the £125 tickets closes at midday BST on Monday.

Tickets for the show will be allocated by public ballot - a move promoter Harvey Goldsmith hopes will deter touts.

"We just hope and pray that those people who get a ticket in a ballot are just going to act accordingly," he said

Goldsmith also warned fans who turned to internet auction sites like eBay or other unauthorised sources that they would have their tickets cancelled.

"They might have paid the money but they ain't going to get the ticket," he said.

Led Zeppelin have sold more than 100 million albums in the US alone
Led Zeppelin were one of the most popular and influential rock acts of the 1970s, setting the template for heavy metal and shocking the press with their debauched lifestyle.

Best known for songs like Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love and Kashmir, they sold more than 300 million albums around the world.

They split in 1980 after drummer John Bonham died, and have only regrouped for a handful of shows and award ceremonies since.

Bonham's son Jason will join the three remaining members - singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones - for the forthcoming concert.

It is being held in tribute to music mogul Ahmet Ertegun, who co-founded Atlantic Records and signed Led Zeppelin in 1968. He died in 2006 after a fall at a Rolling Stones concert.

Other acts lined up for the show include Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman And The Rhythm Kings, Paolo Nutini and Foreigner.

    Letter

The idea for the tribute show came from his widow, according to Goldsmith, who then set about persuading Led Zeppelin to headline.

"I wrote to everybody and in particular to Robert and Jimmy and John Paul, and said: 'Look this is an opportunity for you to come together and really pay homage to your mentor and mine, and would you do it?'

"Much to my amazement they came back and said yes," he said.

According to the NME, Goldsmith said the band "have no plans to tour but hopes they will".

Profits from the concert will go towards scholarships in Ertegun's name in UK, the USA and Turkey, the country of his birth.

Info Re: Led Zeppelin to confirm reunion

Good luck in getting a ticket !!

25 Million People Register for Led Zeppelin Reunion Gig

Guess what? People love Led Zeppelin. NME.com says the group is so well loved that the website to register for reunion show tickets received 120 million hits yesterday after registering 25 million people for the ticket ballot. For the record, that's more than three times the population of London.

Tickets for the show will be randomly allocated using the ballot system.

Registration is open until Monday, September 17, at noon and there will be 20,000 tickets available beginning at around $250 a piece. Winning registrants will be informed after October 1.

As for the show, it is set for November 26, including sets from Pete Townshend, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini. Bill Wyman and The Rhythm Kings will back up all three of those acts and will play its own set.

The show is a tribute to late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun and money from the show will be for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which pays for scholarships in the UK, US and Turkey.

Here's what Robert Plant had to say about Ertegun:

During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator. His performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long-standing friend.

i went seeing them at their last concert at knebworth in 1979 which was pretty awesome but i doubt i will be going to this one
i would rather remember them from that era when they were at the peak it just wouldn't be the same nearly 30 years on
