Can you get lcd/plasmas that play PC games and windows clear?

Hi

It has been some time since I tried connecting my pc to a tV but back then it was hard to read the text and had loads of problems with the resolution.

Just wonder if there was a lcd/plasma around 37" that allows you to use windows and play PC games clearly and the right resolution and size.


If so what should I be looking out for.

just pick one that has a pc input, any that has will be fine m8...

LCD tvs are pretty much the same as LCD monitors, so yes they will work fine with your PC.

I wouldnt recommend plasma for the same job tho, a PC's desktop image would burn in very easily.

try a samsung. i know theres loads of different brands,but there unbelievable
sell them everywhere aswell

I have a 26" Acer LCD that looks great at 1366x768 or summat. Also my plasma is 1920x1080 through DVI to HDMI cable. Most screens with a VGA cable will work a treat

Normal CRTs now seem ok as long as you have the right graphics card for the job.

Surely any normal CRT will still run in 576 lines or whatever it is and look "crap" (via S-video or simlar) I dont think anything has changed regardless of graphics card.

LCD TV's or LCD monitor same thing except for the TV tuner and inputs. Just check the native resolution of any LCD screen as this is commonly the only res that looks really good for PC inputs.

I think normal CRT can do 800x600 max, but its the connections that make the most difference, the only decent socket on most tellys is RGB scart and i dont think any graphics cards have the option to output via scart at all, some use a SVHS connector but its usually pretty rubbish. Newer ones have component and even HDMI connectors and most LCD/Plasma screens have those or a normal VGA socket you can use.

An old CRT TV 4:3 is 576 pixels (and that is the hight). Its a long and complicated to explain but it would work out as 576 x 768 size picture (and slightly wider on a widescreen). However, the bottom line is that it is going to look shite on a old CRT what ever you do (due to the interlace method it creates the picture).

The LCD's are a lot better... On a 720p LCD you will get a true 1280x720 resolution or an an more expensive 1080p LCD you will get a 1920×1080 resolution. Either look for a LCD with a VGA/PC input or look for a graphics card that has a DVI or HDMI output.

Games will look great on these sets, but using the LCD for reading text might still lead to eyestrain because although the image is high resolution, it is stretched over 32 inches so it probably won't give the fineness that a proper monitor will!

Finally (to confuse matters further). LCD's have a widescreen ratio of 16:9. If you are used to a square PC image (4:3) that will change the look of the desktop drastically... even if you have a widescreen PC monitor, things will still change slightly on a LCD because widescreen PC monitors are 16:10!!
