Question Anyone into Stocks and Shares?

I just set up my first dealer account this morning with Hoodless Brennan to buy some Northern Rock shares after the Chancellor's announcement.

That was a bit of a sitter but I'd like to trade more often and it's something I have no experience of whatsoever. Can anyone recommend some sites or forums with decent daily tips or info?

I think your best bet would be to watch working lunch (BBC 2 I believe most afternoons) and read the broadsheets mate. People on the net might not be telling the truth and have their own reasons to try and get you to buy shares.

Probably just a hobby tbh mate. If I was investing serious cash in stocks I'd probably use a unit trust to spread the risk a bit but I get a better return from btl property at the mo so that's where my cash is staying.

Just wonder if there's any decent online tipsters for the odd flutter.

www.advfn.co.uk has a insurmountable amount of knowledge lurking within, but noone will share much with shares, because it's not really in their interest, much.

My mum is well into it, as is her partner and my brother in law. They seem to go up and down and around with theirs, but it seems involving and kinda fun.

I've always planned to go into it, but I need to find another nintendo 2005, this was a peaking trough of goodness just waiting to explode, it did, and i regretted not making the investment i planned all along. But that's life, expecially on the market, so really all i'd say is find a sector u know, or like, possibly financial, retail, minerals, whatever and research the new stuff, find something YOU like, or that you would buy, and invest in the backbone. If you're lucky, good work, if not, dont spend what u can't afford to lose. Best of all, enjoy it, keep an eye on it and spread the investment.

I thought about buying some when the someone announced that they wouldn't allow them to fold and that they would bail them out, Bank of England I beleive.

We'ren't sure if they're shares were still available to buy though so didn't persure the thought.

    Currently sitting at 199.90 p
52 week high was something like 1,172.00p

Go for it. I doubt it'll go up to that amount for a fair few yeard but buy a thousand and watch it grow.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buy this stock. Finished massively down again today at 185p with no real support at the £2 mark.

Expect this to be down further tomorrow, unless positive news is released such as a takeover.

you have to buy before any positive news such as a take over is revealed because as soon as it happens the shares would sky rocket well actually before its revealed because there are always people in the know about these things.
I personal ask how long you wanted to invest for and how much you want to recieve in return (higher return you want more risky the investment) big suppermarkets and banks are usually the least risky and give a solid return although banks probably have an increased risk to them with recent events.
Another thing that you can do is to bet on the outcome of shares or even markets before investing this allows you to get a feel of how things work without investing too much

I am quite heavily into my stocks and shares - so what would you like to know?

I could offer some tips, but on the strict provisor that I am no expert, just the son of a father that makes a living from it.

This sounds like it could make an interesting litle forum/sub-forum. For people to post tips and the like in.

I am interested, but not involved and for a while now have been meaning to do some reading and bone up on the subject.

Yeah I like that idea super mike.

You never know what to believe on these big forums such as ADVFN. I'm sure certain users use such tactics as going short on a stock then spread negativity about the stock so others sell.

But because DF is a smaller community I'm sure the information will be more reliable.

So what you rekon gunner? Maybe suggest the idea in Lapland, you modding it.

I think Gunny is right here. I'd hold off NR until after the weekend. I'd be surprised if it moves up tomorrow.
I used to work on the stockmarket and I reckon that hedge funds will be "borrowing" NR stock over the weekend as it has gone below 2 quid. They'll then sell it off and hope to buy it back cheaper (therefore making profit) before "returning" it to pension funds.

To be honest, with the sensitivity of the investments and the people making tips I would suggest this goes to VIP only. People just arent going to share unless there is a degree of privacy from the general public.
