Default DF Mini Urbex Tour, London - Xmas 2007

Can a mod please make this a sticky if interest is shown

Right to get the ball rolling, I was talking to some of the more well known photographers on here and we thought about maybe having our own meet in London for any DF'ers. The primary objective would be a DF urbex and introduce some members into this segment of photography if they so wished to come along.

Urbex stands for Urban Exploration and it is the exploration of abandoned sites such as mental asylums, cinemas, factories etc. All of these places are abandoned, although it may be frowned upon you going in there you will not disturb any work. Now the rules are simple:
You do not damage these properties
You do not steal from these properties (keepsakes can be ok if they are obviously going to be thrown away or if they do not take away an important aspect of the trip from any subsequent visitors)
    You do not leave litter

Basically leave the place as you found it.

Now if anyone interested in a meet could leave their name below, the days and dates will not be set now neither will be the places for several reasons. Just if this sounds of interest to you then copy paste the user list and add your own name at the bottom and repost it.

Some of these places may involve climbing, high places (e.g. scaffolding or cranes), tightish gaps and all the kinds of problems you expect when you go to places like this. So please bear that in mind.

I will try to make it a weekend, maybe fri-sun so we have a fri/sat for drinking and getting to know each other too.

Should be great fun so please do try to come

Hell yes. Cheers mate. Looking forward to it already.
Also add me plus 1 to the list will probably drag me mate along. Not DF'er but she is sound. honest..

    ******EDIT******
Rock on. Wife just agreed to letting me despite being stupidly large and pregnant around that time.. Only downside is dropping her off near Dunstable for the weekend then catching train into London...

Not gonna go, but after the silent hill post (will update when I ain't dazed and confused from work, unless someone does it for me) I am totally looking forward to the pics here. I have a few abandoned site links and they totally turn me on photographically. Mental asylums, old factories, military bases....it's all good. Bah, pics are one thing, visiting is another.

Ok well dates will be arranged ASAP, they will be PM'd to those on the interested list, this is for obvious reasons. Dates, times and venues will be kept private via. PM.

As for accomodation we wil larrange some cheap hotels and room shares, sure we can pile a room full on beds, floor, closets, in drawers (for any smaller members ).

Glad to see such a positive response and cheers roach for making it sticky

I would like to give it a shot, cost and time would be a big factor, especially for my guest but add me to the ranks.

Right as an update atm I am at a temping agency so can get most days during the week free if I give notice, however I will still be working friday and saturday nights delivering unless I can swap a shift with a mate. So I just need to know is november or december better for everyone? Then I will have to just say a date and see how many can come then adjust it rather than asking all for dates they can do, tried that before and it never works

do you have a plan for this then ES? Would probably get more people interested if you listed possible urbex locations for us to visit.

Well the problem is mate with Urbexing (especially in London and such other areas) that sites can appear and disappear within weeks so there is no plan as of yet. All I can think of is if people want a good plan of locations then they can do it in my area. I can take us to one of the largest and most famous mental asylums in the UK, a large sugar factory and I can list some other possible locations.

The asylum and sugar factory I mentioned are both planned for renovation and destruction in some parts so not sure when that may be... They have been around for urbexing for 4 and 10 years respectively though.

Well I havn't got anywhere planned yet mate as I don't want to plan it around me to make it easiest for me, I want it to be best for the majority that was why originally I said London as it has good transportl inks. But if people want a planned route then I can arrange it in my area which is a bit north of london, severalls mental asylum, ipswich sugar factory, possibly st. albrights mental hospital, st. johns hospital (more modern, just closed), possibly jumbo water tower, runwell mental asylum and I'm sure there's even more. These are just some of the choices you have in my area alone (I am quite lucky ). Each one takes a while to properly explore so can't do all of them in 2 days!

Let me know what you think, I would like to do london but don't mind doing it here as lots of these places won't be around for much longer.

    Cheers

One thing to remember with these places is that most are now securitied up to the max.

They have guards/guard dogs, cameras, alarms, laser sensors and im not kidding.

As "Urbex" and friendly your going to be in these places, your still be tresspassing.

As i found out in Epsom, West Park

Bear in mind the older places are cacked in asbestos, and if vandals have gone in there and ripped it apart a bit, lots of it can and will be exposed.. again, as i found out @ West Park

    Spoiler:

Not my pics but near identical to mine (except in daylight).

Its a fooking scary place i tell dee.
