    Default Win XP Pro Activation

Microsoft are $h1t, generally I like them as a company but all this activation stuff pisses me off.

Basically I have two PC's which both have valid XP Pro license keys attached to them. They didn't come with a re-install CD so I have downloaded an XP Pro image to install from. Of course the license keys I have aren't accepted (nothing is ever easy).

So I installed with a key that came with the CD image that I installed from. But I want to be legal on the machines so I can get updates etc so how can I change the keys to the valid keys that I have with the machines (little MS stickers on the side)?

    Any help mucho appreciated.

    Paul

P.S. The XP Pro image I downloaded is asking for a volume license key.

The best thing for you is to get get a copy of Windows XP Pro Corporate as this doesn't require activation no t matter how many times you use it.That would solve your probs no doubt.Ask Google?

Use google to search for a program called RockXP..

Install XP using the dodgy key then use RockXP to change to a legal key...

Then ghost your system as soon as its done so you dont have to fark around again.

You`ll prob find you downloaded XP Pro SP2 whereas you licenses are for XP Pro SP1...or vice versa. Its why we have all versions of XP (and all other OS`s) in the shop, just for this sorta thing.
    Recent Mac convert...

Thanks everybody for all of your feedback. Problem solved now as I managed to find on one of the machines a an Acer system restore creator so I just used that and ran all the updates.

Since starting this thread though I have managed to get a XP Pro VLK disc with a key gen and a WPA hack so we are now cooking on gass regardless of if I have an original key or not.

    Regards
