    Default N95 Screen Fault

Fucking brilliant, just as I got my second N95 from o2, with the new firmware, been using it fine for 2/3 weeks now. Everything set up how I want. Brilliant.

I was using it, I then put it next to me on the bed, and I THINK I then put the remote on top of it, I picked it up again 10 mins later to see the screen doing this :

Seems as if the remote has hit the LCD causing some fluid leak or something, not ive been tapping it again with the remote a lot harder than how I placed it on it before. I now think it's a problem with the phone.

I am thinking of sending it back and cancelling my contract ( within 30 still ) as this is the second N95.

    Pain in the arse.

What do you lot think it is ?

Well I think I can safely say that hitting it with a remote hasnt helped.

In my vast experience a screen doesnt just go like that, they will last the length of the handset if you take care with them. To me it looks like (well from those photos anyway) like the screen has been damaged by dropping it (or simillar actions)

I think the only solution is to have the screen replaced.

What I meant was I was gently tapping the screen with the corner of the remote, and it wasn't having any effect.

I've been reading up on other screen problems, some say this is due to the Ribbon coming loose from the board to the screen which is common. I'll pop into Nokia Service centre see what they say.

How much is a new screen likly to be of Nokia won't accept it as a freejob ?

Worth taking our insurance and waiting a few months...

Not sure if this is a ribbon fault as this generally causes a blank white screen, or in certain circumstances it can cause some buttons to become inactive.

As for the price of the screens, I havent actually priced one up yet as I have never had to replace one yet. I will see if I can get a price for you tomorrow from a suppliers.

Gutted, the N95 is a top phone but with a screen that big its my only worry that its going to get damaged. Anyone got a link to one of those gel stylee screen guards you can get?

the thing with the n95 screen is their is absolutly no protection from the LCD and the user like other phones have a glass in front the n95 does not thats why screen looks so crisp but at the cost of it being easily to damage.

They said it wasn't a fault, said it had been dropped. I can honestly say it was not dropped. It was likey to have happened as I had my phone and two remotes on the bed bunched together, somehow, very strange.

Anyway I took it apart checked the ribon and that was fine and intact, so the screen has taken a knock somehow, so just bought another LCD of a website for £25.99 + £3 pnp. Can fit it myself, easier than I thought, 4 screws, 2 clips and a lever holding the ribbon to the board.

More annoying than anything, I used to drop my 6280 all over the show, still works fine after 13 months of abuse. Must get a screen protector from now on.

£45 Nokia Centre ( carphone warehouse) wanted, and it would take 5-7 days.

Dicks it's a 2 min job once you have the screen.

6280 does not have a exposed screen thats why its hard for it to get damaged. The fault that the 6280 is more likely to have from dropping is a ripped ribbon.

Aye that's true, the ribbon is really thin, once you look at the connectors at the end, you can see how they can get damaged.

You think the'se are any good for future ?

Has anyone tried these cheap screen guards from ebay? I've had a look at a few and some say if you have never fitted one before then give the seller a call? How hard can it be?!

It's something I will be looking into, for sure. I am not paying £30 a pop each time my screen takes the smallest knock.

I doubt the silicon sheet screen protectors available will protect against impact damage like that experianced by ian54, they're designed to protect against scratches. Just like the cellophane that comes on the screen but neater and a little more hard wearing. If you want full protection for the screen a better idea might be an acrylic housing for the phone such as

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CRYSTAL-CASE-C...QQcmdZViewItem

I got one for mine but managed to break the top section taking it off and on. seemed good for protection before I broke it and didn't add too much bulk to the handset

My friend has one on his N91, looks fucking awful.

    I think the answer is
    1. be insured
    2. be careful.

I have the black plactic crystal type case on mine and it looks fine, but I also have a white one which is just as good.

It doesnt make any difference to the size of the phone.

end of the day you cant exactly make the phone drop proof unless you wrap the thing in bubble rap. Just try not to drop your phone. Or be like me have 2 phones a shit one for all calls and 1 just for outgoign and playing with
