Default BT and FON to offer free wireless WiFi nationwide

BT and FON have joined forces to create a Wi-Fi community that allows its members to connect for free in thousands of places around the UK and the world.

Any BT Internet/Broadband customer can join for free and those with Home Hubs can also be set up a HotSpot for other customers.

Anyone doing this seems to get:

    - free access to other BT customers WiFi hotspots

    - free access to BT Openzone hotspots

    - free access to any FON Hotspot anywhere in the world.

Note: that is someone else uses your connection as a hotspot, it doesn't come out of your own usage allowance and contains security so they are 100% separated from your own home network

Anyone opting in will be sent a firmware upgrade to their Home Hub (if they have one) from Monday

More details including FAQs and a forum at http://www.btfon.com/

Now that would be quite good. I seem to remember years and years ago you could buy a phone that worked when it was in range of a hotspot. Can't remember now think it was something like Rabbit?? I'm talking 10 years+ mind! It obviously wasn't VOIP lol

I like BT apart from the throttling which seems ever more apparent recently. My dad works for them so I have option 3 for free, BT vision for a one off £1 payment etc though so I have reasons to like them He told me about this last night, sounds quite good to me!

I havn't used vision yet mate, to be honest I don't know how or what it is, just know I have it or will be given it soon lol. But I did hear somewhere if you get vision then you don't get throttled so no it shouldn't affect vision at all, in fact I seem to remember it saying somewhere if vision is on the line then the line is never throttled so I guess I must be getting vision soon rather than have it already.

EDIT: Vision is arriving here next week mate so feel free to PM me when its up and running and I can answer any concerns you may have

    Possibly further wifi info here:
