Internet Connections problems from V"gin/my pc (Help please)

Hi everyone,

Just a complicated problem in like to tickle ur brains with. Cheers for the help in advance, appreciate it. Im a student in york and currently have 2 desktops in my house. The bottom floor houses a mates computer, he is currently running a usb from the nthell 250 modem to the usb port in the back of his pc. I have my desktop upstairs which i have tried plugging an ehternet from the modem downstairs to my pc upstairs. when i get to the ip renew on the v&gin install disk it says dchp could not be renewed or something or other. I have taken the usb out and left my computer running solely off the ehternet (without the usb connected) but to no avail. i have foned vir(gn and they have ran through a do it youself toubleshoot over the phone where he told me to enter nchp.ts in the run box through the start menu. he says he resetted my ethernet board i think. but it still didnt work. He advised i get a techy out to get it fixed but i cant see me having the same problem with both pcs (they both come up it could not renew the ip address)

Help is much appreciated, thanks!

n.b i also jhave all lights working correctly on the modem and the V67gin guy said it wasnt a pronblem with my modem as all the relevant lights were on.

Just leave your mates PC connected to the modem via USB and connect your two PC's together via crossover cable and share the internet connection. Dead easy with WinXP. Or get a router.

Use the USB computer to run ICS (internet connection sharing) its in the network settings.. Self explanitory.. the run ICS on your other PC and connec to to the ICS host..
