    Default Vista instal prob

    Hi
I built myself a computer and bought oem version of vista home premium, installed it but sytem was slow and rubbish so I replaced it with my old XP until I changed motherboard and chip. when I try to instal it again on same computer it says that it is registered to another PC.
I know this means it is registered to other motherboard but surely must be something I can do to re-instal???
I have three PCs in my house, all with their own licences so piracy.
    suggestions please
    LS

Phone MS and tell them your mobo blew up and you need to install on the new one, they'll give you a code.

i'd probably give microsoft a ring if you have a legit version, and just tell them what happened. make sure you get some more memory as well

    edit: beat me to it

Bugger, I don't know the answer to that one. The general tech support number should at least be able to refer you.

    Hi all
thank you for your assistance, I called Microsoft this morning and they said as I had an OEM version of Vista on my computer then I should contact my microsoft registered OEM system builder for the support, when my Motherboard went wrong and they would have provided any details I required ggggrrrrrr... so I have Vista home premium Licence (oem) on side of computer - registered and activated in my name but have to use a shady XP on it.....unbelievable..

That's worrying, this was not a problem for XP OEM. Yet another reason to buy a Mac, new OS £85 or £129 for 5 user licence!! and it doesn't require huge upgrades to make it work (badly)
At the risk of being acused of being a born again Apple fanboy (again!) I have a desktop which has had a clean install of Vista since it came out earlier this year needing a format because it's such a pig and a Macbook which has been a revelation!!

I can only suggest phoning again, I think it can depend on the operator. If you get the "microsoft registered OEM system builder" BS again point out tha the OEM version was made available to anyone with the readies and NOT only "microsoft registered OEM system builders"

    Hi

Update, activated at night, clicked buttons to automated numbers, it again refused and asked me to call an 0800 number - he activated no hassle.
    thanks to all.
