    Question Impreza speedometer swap

Hi all, looking for some info..
I'm planning a speedometer swap for my 2004 Impreza, need to keep the same mileage on odometer. Would I be correct in assuming the mileage is stored on an EEPROM? If so, could I just swap the chip from one speedometer to the other or are there some other issues that would be involved?
Failing that, I found this add on fleabay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

Seller claims that the mileage can be corrected via OBDII connector, just need the necessary cable to match the software. Is this correct? and if so what cable needs to be sourced?
I already have a Tactrix cable for logging and tuning, not sure if this is compatible.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

And this is one of the reason why the last couple of cars i've bought have been brand new. I wouldn't trust a second hand one, especially after reading on here how many people adjust their mileage! Shocking

    Info Re: Impreza speedometer swap

    Hi,
This vehicle can not have the mileage adjusted via obd2 socket,
If you notice the seller also states "Please note this is auction is only for the software, no hardware is included, you will get 3 CD'S with the software on"

this is probaly just software which would be free with any hardware purchased that was needed.

and yes you could just swap eeproms over if you wish.

    Sonik...
Thanks for the reply. I thought I had read before that it couldn't be done via OBD, you confirmed it. Out of interest I contacted the seller, he said the required cables were available on the web..... obviously he doesn't know what he's selling.
I'll try the swapping eeprom route

    Cheers

Good question.. I am living in Japan, my Impreza STI is 2004 which has speedo readout up to 180km/h. Car is restricted to that speed (yes 112mph). 2006 onwards STI has speedo up to 260km/h, which is what I want to install at same time as de-restricting the car.
And reason for keeping the mileage is the car is still under warrantee (5 years) so if I change the clocks with same mileage dealer shouldn't complain... hopefully.
Another possibility is sourcing km/h clocks with mph on inside so when/if I ship it home to Blighty, will meet the legal requirements there.

    Cheers
