    Default The genius of photography

Has anyone been watching this prog on BBC 4 recently.
I have only caught the first one but the rest are on my generic satellite recording machine..

The first started with the history of photography, lots of historians in cotton white gloves pouring over some serious old images. But it talked about the evolution of the box brownie.. Interesting to note that it only cost $1 back in those days with 25c processing and new film. The name kodak only came about as it sounded like nothing else on the market. If you ain't watched any yet it's well worth a gander, guessing it could be found in the usual places if it isn't repeated.

If you can it may be worth your while looking in the VIP section mate...

Here's some more info on it.

    More about the series

In the course of our 170 year relationship, photography has delighted us, served us, moved us, outraged us and occasionally disappointed us. But mainly, it has intrigued us by showing the secret strangeness that lies beneath the world of appearances. And that is photography's true genius.

Follow the story of photography in BBC Four's six-part series 'The Genius of Photography'. See some of the most famous photographs ever taken and find out more about what made them so very special.

I caught the tail end of an episode the other night. Hadn't realised there was a series on about it. I rarely watch TV. Thanks for the heads up

I've been watching it wingnut. Very fascinating.

Last nights was really good I thought, the 70's art photographers and their reticence to use colour which was only seen as useful for holiday snaps until Egglestone's Guide.

Must admit some of Egglestone's later work didn't do much to impress me, although at the time it must have been quite avant garde. He came across a bit pompous at the French interview session too.

I liked the Gas Station images though on Route 66 though.
