    Question Star Six filter

Bought this filter to have a play with it at night ,but at F11 it seems to give no effect at all ,would it just be a case of reducing the f value down till the effect starts ,as i dont want to lose the image because of overexposure ?

Also are there any other types of scenario this filter would be effective at ?

    Regards

the filter should be effective for any scene with a light source ie street lights christmas tree lights ( at this time of year ) by rights you should be able to photo more or less any light source and get the effect
i don't think the appeture setting would be that important but i havn't tried one of those filters so i'm not sure

Interesting effect at f/5.6.. Not my cuppa tea but interesting non the less.
Have you googled Star filters camera settings in Google, that may help you more.
9 times out of 10 when i am stuck I just google a search string and it normally comes back with one relevant site..

Personally think it will be tricky to shot the moon, get that effect and not burn out the moon itself, best bet will be to set up a simple candle on a table and take several shots starting at the widest aperture (f/2.8) and work to the smallest, then compare the results. That way you know what the best setting will be..

    Hope that helps mate.

PS The second shot is at f/7.1

Yeah i found this a little while after posting them up ,seems its for intense pinpoint light ,the moon aint exactly pinpoint ,cheers all the same

Cross star filters add sparkle to night shots in addition to anything that emits pin point sources of light. Candle lights, bridges, headlights, and streetlights are great subject matter. Cross star filters are manufactured to produce four, six, or eight points of light. The brighter the sources of light, the more pronounced are the lines. Additionally, the greater the numbers of pinpoint light sources, the greater the numbers of lines that are produced.
