Default Installing software on a BT Vision Box ?

Has anyone managed to install a modified version of the BT Software that will allow the box to boot without the need to be connected to the Internet?

I have one but no longer have BT Broadband and so its just sat there doing nothing and would really like to make the most of having the Freeview channels using the DTT tuner built in.

Would be really interest in if could be done.

It gets the program guide via BT Broadband so it won't do anything unless connected. However you can get a dump of the software if you remove the hardisk (160gb) and connect it to a PC. But what you do with it I have no idea.

It sucks that you have to have BT Broadband for this. I work for BT and have the option to get one of these for £1 however they will not even sell it to me as I don't use BT Broadband at home lol!

Didn't you get offere BT option 3 broadband free for life though? My dad got us BT option 3 free and £1 one off charge for BT vision. All going OK except the Vision box isn't working properly yet, no ITV, Film 4 and several others. And as we are in a area not digital I have to wait until 2011 for all channels to get signal

I did have a look at one of these, seems the Tsop is all covered in gunk.
You can read the files off the hard drive. It uses windows CE.
Everything everywhere seems to have a SHA1 hash i think it is.

The driver files etc are in the NK.BIN file, which if you search around you can download a tool to extract all the dll's etc.

Not sure if they have implemented the secure bootloader in the CPU, if they have it means even if you get past all the gunk on the tsop and remove it, you still cant change anything as the CPU won't boot it.

If they havent implemented the secure boot, then its not a problem.

Anyone dumped the flash on one of these?

    Aloha,
There are a couple of binaries and a load of XMLs on the hard disk, all of which is digitally signed to stop changes being made unofficially. In Germany, some progress has been with the similar X300t box which runns the same software, they have been able to use a JTAG interface to insert a "custom" bootloader, which then allows them to bypass the signature validation and thus change config and use modified binaries.
There is a "test" firmware available from BT's servers that apprently skips the validation also, but to my knowledge, nobody has tried this yet... I certainly won't be able to until I get a spare box... anyone got one they don't need?

Don't think you get sky one, its freeview with a PVR built in and a good OD service. If you are on option 3 then it should be free if you call up BT, I am just getting to grips with mine but I like it!
