Prison sentence for 130mph driver

Bernard Doherty, 21, from Stockport in Greater Manchester, also drove at 90mph through Ecclefechan village in south west Scotland in April last year.
He admitted driving dangerously while disqualified and without insurance on the B7076 in Dumfries and Galloway.
Doherty was banned from driving for a total of five years. <!-- E SF -->
Dumfries Sheriff Court heard how Doherty was followed by a police patrol car with its lights flashing for him to pull over.
Resumed chase
Instead, he accelerated and drove through the 30mph limit in Ecclefechan at speeds of over 90mph.
The police vehicle slowed down because of pedestrians and cars on the road but resumed the chase as Doherty reached speeds up to 130mph.
He eventually slowed the vehicle and tried to flee from it but was subsequently caught.
The court was told that Doherty had been serving sentences in England since the incident and was not due to be released until July next year.
