Default Sony Camcorder to PC (XP)

    Hi all

My wife has mentioned she would like all the old Videos of the kids backing up on DVD. So I was going to pay some website to do it, but since reading some of these forums It seems quite easy to do it yourself, Am I right in saying all I have to do is connect a video player into my Sony camcorder (to change it from analogue to digital) then buy a firewire to connect camcorder to my PC. Ialso read Pinnacle 11 is good for this, but is there not some program already on XP to edit and then burn the hard drive onto a DVD.
As you can gather I am pretty new to this, so any help would be much appreciated.

Buy a dvd recorder. They're pretty cheap nowadays.

Unfortunately not all camcorders support this. If your camcorder has AV in (not just DV) then you can play the tape out of the VCR and record it (probably using the phono cables that came with your camcorder) onto the camcorder. Then once its on the camcorder you can firewire it onto your PC.

A long winded 2 step way of doing it. You can also get VCR's that have firewire on them but they are not cheap.

As DJ Overdose says a DVD recorder would probably be your easiest cheapest option.

Windows XP has "movie maker" built in, which can be found under the accessories menu.
It's very basic but can import video from camcorders and such. You can then edit out what you don't want and play about with effects.

Hi welcome aboard, this is the intro section so asking questions in here isn`t going to get you many replies, try asking in the dog and duck, that`s the main members hangout and you`ll get a much better responce there. btw, if you haven`t already take a peek at the rules and the stickies in each section that you visit.
