Default High cpu usage for hardware interupts on a win 2000 machine

    Hello

My old computer seens to be really slow and when i downloaded sysinternals it showed hardware interupts being really high cpu usage 70 -100.

Thought it might be a failing network card or video card replaced them both and still have the same problem.
I've downloaded the latest motherboard bios and drivers, as well as all the latest drivers for the hardware and still the issue is there.

Any ideas what it can be or some software that could tell me what it is.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and seeing if the hi cpu usage happens then also?

If in safe mode all is ok you could be looking at a driver issue or irq conflict when the driver loads

    Windows 2000

Windows 2000 can only boot into Safe Mode using the F8 method as it does not have a System Configuration Utility.

Using the F8 Method during boot

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. When that is completed it will start loading Windows.
    3. When you see the screen that has a black and white bar at the bottom stating "Starting Windows", tap the F8 key repeatedly until you get to the Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu
    4. At this menu use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode option, which is usually the first in the list.
    5. Press the enter key.
    6. Your computer will continue booting, but now will boot into Safe Mode.
    7. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

I went to xp in the end and it seemed fine for a bit but now its back.

I'll boot in to safe and see what happens in there.

The spec are duron 1300 1gb of ram.

But I found what is was in the end, the hard drive wasn't going in to DMA mode for some reason it change to PIO. All I did was delete the driver and reinstall and it purring along.

Thank you for the advice a it was a driver in the end.
