He He, you being serious with that list, or you really think those are a crop of great hip hop?
BIG and Tupac have both been ravaged and destroyed commercially since their deaths. Its a disgrace. Sadly their names and material has turned from true genius and cutting edge, to extemely pop chart and manufactured garbage.

everyone is posting smart arse replies cos people have posted loads of hip hops greatest songs and albums, but you dont like any of them and instead name faux "hip hop" songs that you prefer which are in actual fact.. shite.
i think you like the idea of liking hiphop, but instead you actually prefer pop hip-hop and remixes n shit.
not a bad thing per se, but i dont think you will get what you want by asking for hip hop tracks.
What do you mean by shite? Shite as in they are not to your liking or that they aren't actually hip hop songs? Because as I mentioned earlier I'm not too sure. I just assumed they are hip hop.
So does pop hip hop actually exist? I mean is that an actual genre? If you would class my choice as pop hip hop then so be it, that's what I like. But I don't think that is an actual genre is it? Therefore hip hop was the only choice or am I wrong?
I don't really know what you mean by 'like the idea of liking hip hop'. The fact is I like some of the songs. I couldn't give a shit what type of genre it is. If I like it I like it. If you mean because liking it would be cool or some shit like that well that's just wrong. Why would someone say they like something when they don't?

theres loads of different genres
pop/rnb
pop/rap
rap/hip-hop
etc
the point is you asked people to recommend you some good hip hop songs, and a nice list has been compiled of some great tracks but youve liked a fraction. so why not look at other genres such as rap/pop/rnb and their variations as you dont seem to like much of the suggested straight hip hop or rap/hip hop
Ok so judging by my list. What type of genre do you think I should be looking at?

a 5 song list isnt really gonna help.

Grandmaster Flash hasn't been mentioned yet AFAICT. Also search Boogie Down Productions . Man Parrish. KRS-One. Sugerhill has already been mentioned.
For me, the hip-hop sound finished in the late 80s, taken over by gangsta and the RnB artists that most people today call hiphop.
LL Cool J's 'Going Back to Cali' has one of the best reverbarating bass beats for me.
Boogie Down Bronx by Man Parrish
The soundtrack to Breakin' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086998/soundtrack
