    Wii wii disc read error

    Hi Guys

I got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas and everything was fine, untill about a week after i got it, it now struggles to read game discs - you click on them in the channel window and it spins and spins and then says unable to read disc or disc error refer to operations manual.

I have 3 games 2 that are new and one i borrowed off a friend, all three struggle to load i have to physically take the game out clean it and then put it back in, restart the wii and sometimes turn it off and back on again, i sometimes have to do this about 10 times for it to pick up the disc.

Once the game is running it is fine i don't get another error message.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening or how to fix it, or is my only option to contact Nintendo?

Do you have the latest firmware?

Is one of the games Super Mario Galaxy?

I have seen this happen on two friends wii's with SMG but they didn't have the latest firmware (and were not connected to the internet so could not update)

there has been a number of reports of this problem with Wiis bought at Christmas, just give Nintendo a ring and they should help, failing that you should be able to take it back to the store where you bought it.

Yeah, I'd take it back to where I bought it from and ask for a replacement.

my brothers wii just did this, he had 40 mins on the phone to nintendo (on hold) and then a 30 second conversation to give his name and address. they posted him a parcel farce label then to put on whatever box he elects to use. bit poor if you ask me but there you go

hopefully the actual repair will be a quick turnaround

I have had the same problem, Wii was from germany in november. Not connected to the net so the FW might help and SMG did it a lot as well as res evil 4, smoothe moves and more games.

Emailed nintendo and they sent me a parcelforce label to print off. Not returned it yet though, will try the FW first.

Yes i have the latest firmware, funnily enough i have only started getting these problems since i have upgraded.

The two games that are really bad are Zelda (virtually unplayable) and Wii Sports (wii sports is new) I have also had it happen a couple of times with Rayman 2.

The console was an Xmas present and bought from Amazon and they are not accepting returns plus they have no stock.

Has anyone actually had there wii fixed by Nintendo?? if so how long does it take? i am not sure of sending it back as i may never see it again ! LOL

    Cheers

why wouldn't you see it again?

I sent back a Ds for repair and they just replaced it, the turn around was a few weeks.

thought id give an update on this, my brother sent his wii off about 2 weeks ago and heard nothing at all back. Last week he got a package with a wii inside, no note, nothing

Great stuff, or so we thought.

Plugged it in and it's still faulty

He's tried calling nintendo today and is only getting a recorded message saying how busy they are
