    Default Petrol Prices

    Okay -

The email below hit my inbox at work today and it kind of makes sense.

    See what you think:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting 106.9 p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain
day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil
companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of >an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take
a ggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place
not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting
    ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's
    really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send itto
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
    THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and
not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the
next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
    RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.
    boycott BP and Esso

there is no point blaming BP and Esso they make not a lot on a ltr of petrol its the British Government taking the piss as usual giving the UK the highest taxed fuel in the World.

I don't go to BP anyway its always 4p more than the other garages round here. Shell seem to be the same price as Asda which is good news. I still try and pay 99p a litre for mine.

www.pipelinecard.org seems to have a solution, though it's a long way off yet, the only way to get cheaper fuel is through buying power with lots of members this could work. take a look for yourself

I wouldn't bother with pipeline, the guy who runs it has had problems getting buy in from the major fuel companies and is going to make it into a credit card or something like that where you get a discount at petrol stations.

He goes on the MLR as BenS and has got a few peoples backs up on there as all they got from signing up is a load of spam.

I joined pipeline several years ago and there has been little or no progress in that time. All I seem to get from them are online discounts for things like Wine, GPS etc.

Unless they move over to paramilitary style direct-action e.g. firebombing fuel depots and assassinating the chancellor's cat.. I'll be unsubscribing.

Won't go anywhere and here's why.

Most goods get made in massive numbers, get sold to wholesalers in bulk, go to shops in smaller numbers, then end up at us, getting more expensive per time.

With petrol, the producers are already selling direct to consumers, cutting out all the middle men. If that fella asked for 500,000 people's petrol to be delivered to his storage facility, then took responsibility for payment, storage and distribution, then maybe the companies may be inclined to offer a discount. As it is, there is no incentive whatsoever for companies to go along with this plan, so it obviously won't go anywhere.

These tactics do not work. All companies look at quarterly results more than daily. As such you will have to buy petrol at some point during that time.

The only way this would work would be if people didn't buy petrol for 3 months and that just wouldn't happen.

I have not used ESSO for as long as i have been driving, they have a very bad rep in terms of envronment, how they treat thier low key staff abroad and the list goes on.

You may have seen the still present logo E££O

And i do nto use BP, I use Shell currently as a station of choice.

I was once told there are a few Massive storage facilities in the UK (after telling a friend this) he laughed and said all the petrol is the same, comes from the same place. SO in a sense, my approach does not matter to me in terms of good fuel.

But equally in terms of company profits, the above is an action well worth taking.

Whats your definition of "worked" ?

As I remember the action got fuck all except the promise to look into the matter, and then Gorden Brown continued as normal. In fact the only reason anything changed after that action was due to the world wide cost of crude stabilsed!

I think it kinda worked but not really. At the budget after the fuel protests Brown put the price of fuel up, but the following april so you didn't notice it straight away. Makes me want to sell the car with fuel prices so high!
