    PS3 HFS+ External HD on PS3

Ok I have been messing around with my external HD trying to get something to work on the PS3 for HD films, as it doesn't recognize NTFS I formatted to FAT32 which is fine for DIVX but for HD (if I can get alt to work) I need to be able to do files larger than 4gig. Just reformatted to HFS+ MAC format which allows files larger than 4 gig and is supposed to work on the PS3 but I cannot get it to recognize the drive although on the 360 it shows up and plays my files on there just fine. PS3 I can't get to pick up any files at all.

Is there something I am missing / have any of you guys tried this yet / is there another way I can format my external HD so I can get 4gig+ files and will be picked up on my PS3???

Any help Much appreciated - Is doing my fucking head in now

There are ways to get files bigger than 4GB onto the PS3. If you are using the Red Kawa Media Center 10 to transfer them over the network you have to do the following:

    Go to C:\Program Files\Red Kawa\File Server\core

In this "core" folder make another folder called "files"

Dump your large videos in there.

Then, on your PS3's browser go to : http://:8192/files

You must type that address directly, if you browse to the folder, it will NOT work

    And Voila, problem solved

BTW, expect some weird behavior from your PS3 when doing this. It will not know the size of the file, and you will not see how much % of the file have been downloaded. But trust me, the file will download

Thanks Drogo - but that is just for streaming files over the network (I only have wireless which is shit for streaming) Am really wanting to get my external usb HD to work with larger files. Streaming over my wireless network is choppy as fook

prezzy u can also use that red kawa server thing for transferring files to the ps3 hard drive - i did this with some mp4 i created from mkv using gotsent .
bit crap cos u can can only have a few at time on drive, unless u upgraded your drive in ps3. also, it will only let u copy video files the ps3 recognizes, ie mp4 etc

You can but it only recognizes certain file types way less than the 360 does.

tversity should let you stream bigger files to either 360 or ps3

bobo if you format your external hd with macdrive to hfs+ you will be able to put over 4gig files on your drive and the 360 will pick them up / don't work on the ps3 though and macdrive doesn't work with vista64

does anyone know why this is the case is it something that could be addressed in the future with a dashboard/firmware update ?

or is it because of some coding in the consoles itself and wont be fixed till ps4/x720 ?
