Looks so delicate though. You'll probally be able to crush it with your hand.
im normally a rational bloke who already owns a macbook pro and yet now not only do i need an iphone (still not sure why) i want one of these as well, (cant think of a reason for one though)
whats wrong with me?
Buy one then if you love em so much. If you can get the functionality out of one of them that you can get out of a PC you should never look back but sadly you know you will never get the breadth of apps for them. Looks ain't everything as many of you will realise the older you get.
isn't the software a lot more expensive?
also not as freely availible as pc?
you can already run a virtual xp setup in the background via things like parallels
there are also rumours apple are in the process of enabling windows apps to run natively in future releases of osx.

MacBook Air doesn't have a user-replaceable battery

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/apple/MacBook_Air_doesn_t_have_a_user_replaceable_battery'; We sort of understood it with iPods, and we grudgingly accepted it with the iPhone, but the MacBook Air has a sealed, non-user-replaceable battery, and that means we're suddenly a lot less in love. We're digging for details on how much it'll cost to swap out -- and what Apple expects road warriors to do when their slick new ultraportable dies on the go, stick with us.
software more expensive? The latest OS is £89 for single licence and £129 for 5 licence. Loads of software available from the usual sources
Just remember (speaking as a current macbook pro owner) the battery recalls from the last couple of years. For me it was easy to get a swapped battery but without being able to change the battery something as simple as the recalls were will be massivly more difficult. id love to know when the lack of an optical drive became a feature rather than a downside i wonder how youd install the os in case of a total loss, or replacement of the hdd
It does look very pretty, but i'm still not feeling-it, going to stay with my noisy computer!
So basically we have a lappy with no cd/dvd and you can't change the battery?
Even as as someone firmly in the x86/m$ camp, if there was a windoze compatabile equilvalent that happily ran mac os whatever, there is now way I would consider it. As much as I laugh and wish I could whole heartedly agree about the typical apple/pc arguements, this does really sound like style over substance.
I wonder how many people here have reinstalled an o/s more than say 6 times a year (I've done it 3 times in one day on my own pc once), how many people have managed to change batteries in their tv remotes, etc. - you get my point?
I'm not sure I do get your point, software paticularly OS rarely has to be re-installed on a Mac. Other software is ludicrously easy and Fast to install, no long waits while drivers get thrown around all over the place. Macs, particularly the new intel machines are faster, easier to use and yes, prettier. That said I would not buy the "air" because it makes no sense to buy less than a fully featured laptop unless it's a "sub"
everything on mac just works and there is software to do everything that you can do on a pc (except high end gaming) the hardware usually carries a premium but the software does not. There is a decent stream of stuff thru the usual channels too (torrents etc)
Sure you can run XP using bootcamp or parallels but in reality and once you 'let go' you will have no need to for 99% of the time
If you are not using highly specialised applications written for specific jobs, people that say a mac wouldnt do what they need it to are frankly talking shit
more than 99% of the population could switch right now with no ill effects (after some accostomisation)
The stuff works just as it should, everything installs like a breeze. MacOs is so intuitive that your granny could work it and so powerful that a power user can make it do what he wants.
Yes its expensive to buy, yes its expensive to upgrade but I am still using a 8 year old mac laptop running the very latest operating system and all of the latest apps and running them perfectly. That simply is not the case for wintel computers
