    Default Email notification

At work I have a number of inboxes that I need to check for incoming mail messages, I use the ‘new mail notification’ pop up to let me know when I have got a new message, however this only seems to work for my main email account. I have two additional inboxes within outlook but them mail arrives in these I do not received the notification.

Is it possible to have the notification display for all incoming mails regardless of which inbox they arrive in.

I've had a quick google and I couldn't find anything obvious. You could set up a rule that forwards new emails from your other mailboxes to your main inbox which would trigger the alert then? You might even be able to set it to delete itself once you've read it so that your inbox doesn't get clogged up?

As far as I know the new mail notification will only work for your own inbox. I have a similar situation in my own job, and the other inboxes I have access to, are ones that I have been given access to by whoever the "owner" of the mailbox is ( when new email accounts are set up by admins they have to "associate " it with someone who already has an existing account). I don't think there's any way around it, sorry m8

    (outlook 2k7)

tools, rules and alerts, new rule, check messages when they arrive, through the 'specified' account, next, display desktop alert, next, finish...

should be similar for 2k3 too...

I'll have a look around but so far i can't see an option for 'rules and alerts' only rules wizard, which asks me if i want to retain the rules on the server.

Not getting involed with server things at work

    Cheers for the advise

you must be running outlook 2003 or previous i guess but rules wizard is defo the option you need...

just click yes to the message it'll not change anything... it basically means this is the first time you've run the rules wizard but there are already rules set on the server... do you want to keep them... so yes... (i guess it's picked up an out of office message)

server rules are rules you create that the server carries out for you without you having to have outlook open... ie your out of office message, or maybe a rule to move mail from a particular user to a specific folder.

the rule you create will be a client rule. only in operation when outlook is open (it would hard for outlook to check the arrival of new mail when it's not even open!)
