Help Is my CPU running hot?

I installed Speedfan as reccomended and i got these results:

    System: 48C
CPU: 57C (and has gone as high as 61C)
    AUX: 46C

I checked on the intel website and my chip is Pentium D Processor 945 SL9QQ and it said the max temp should be 63C. Should i be worried? Have i not set up Speedfan correctly?

    Thanks for any help.

The reading from the chip itself may be wrong - try changing the bios on your motherboard and see if that makes much of a difference.

If that doesnt help it can sometimes be worth removing the heatsink, cleaning off all the thermal paste and applying a fresh layer before re-attaching the heatsink. Also make sure that there is a good airflow around the heatsink.

I have had cables move in the way before and seen temperatures rise.

Thanks for the replies but i totally do not know what "changing the bios" means. I found a BIOS optimisation guide but not sure which bits to follow:

@BlackKnight i dont think i would know where to begin with removing the heatsink.

Not suprised since it makes no sense.

    The temps seem fine.

Wouldn't worry unduly. Keep checking it after load and see if it gets a lot higher. If so as above change the thermal grease. Not a massive job and reasonably easy to do if you can get round the cooler. The music on this vid is terrible, hence why I posted it.

Just had a look at the Intel site and a max of 63C is quite low! But that is what the datasheet says! I had a look at the Core2Duo's and their max is only 60C!!

Then I had a look at the Pentium M's and they can safely go up to 100C but if they reach 125C they shut down the CPU's internal clock (however according to Intel other factors may still damage the CPU).

Then I looked as the Core2Duo Mobile CPU's and they're the same as the Pentium M's and can go up to 100C with a 125C fail safe!

I thought all CPU's could go up to a max of 100C with a 125C fail safe, not just laptop ones!

If yours is idling at 57C then I would add new thermal paste (a good type like Arctic Silver 5, not some cheap stuff). And also fit a bigger heatsink if your case has enuff space for it.

I've been monitoring it and most of yesterday and it ranges from 53C -62C. It mainly stays at 57-59 but for a few seconds under heavy load it will go upto 62c. Think i will see how it is for the next few days and see if i have to do anything. Thanks again for all the info!

have you got the correct sensors setup with speedfan , you can download specific ones for your mobo on the speedfan site by signing up to it , your ambient temp is high at 48 so that either suggest to me the sensors are out or you have a hot case with not much air flow through it, The cpu you have does run warmer than the Core 2 duo chips but it does have a thermal failsafe built into it. As other have said be worth reseating your heatsink with some new thermal compound, arctic silver does the job nice , only a thin smear is needed and maybe look at getting the airflow on your case sorted out.
