I'd have a look at Onkyo mate. Their gear is quality. I would have a look on AVForums if I were you as there is a wealth of info on there.

Yeah mate. Pays to read up. Onkyo stuff is the bollocks. I put one in for a mate a while back and it is awesome on sound and image quality. Nice to just have one HD lead going into the panel. Very tidy indeed.

I have just put together my new set up and gone for the Onkyo TXSR605, on the recommendation of a mate who installs high end systems. I've only paid £230 for mine but that's a trade price. The cheapest I could see it was at Richer Sounds for £399.50.

I've got an Onkyo 905 on order - that will bust your budget but you might be able to get the 875 for about £850 if you shop around:

    ^ not there tho! :-(

I would ask but I don't want to take the piss as he has sorted all the leads, connections, wall mount for the tv and is fitting the whole system for me.

My new set-up is as follows:
I've gone for a Panasonic TH-50PX70B-CAB 50 inch plasma wall mounted, an Onkyo TXSR605 amp, REL Quad subwoofer, TEAC LS H255 for the rear speakers on Vogel wall brackets, flush mounted ceiling speakers for front and centre speakers and a Panasonic DVD-S511EB dvd player.

Onkyo have done a good job this year, the units do tend to get very hot especially the cheaper ones, so make sure its well ventilated.

The internal amp modules they use, for the price are okay, so stereo is pretty good, they dont sound as good as some of the Denons or Rotels (Rotel lack features, but great for audio performance) but for the money, there is currently nothing better.

Sony and Pioneer were showing some real nice models in Vegas, but we wont see most of them till late summer/autumn.

Roach, that Panny is a lovely screen!

Good choice Roachie. I set the 605 up for my mate a couple of days after they came out over here and I have to say it is an awesome machine.

Well he was pretty adamant it is going to give the quality and versatilty that I wanted for the set-up. It seems fairly "futureproof" too.

The PZ isn't 1080p, but the PX is 1080p.

I've put them in most rooms including bathrooms (as they are water resistant), the intention is to power them with my Sonus system when I get round to buying it. They are inexpensive but will be fine with the Onkyo.

I have gone for TEAC LS H255 bookshelf speakers as they are reasonably priced (under £100) rear speakers as they have received great reviews in their class and the amp is going to be what really sets them off.

The sub I bought off Ebay for £230 (went and collected so saw the guy was legit, he lived in a nice house in a nice area, it was brand new boxed as part of an insurance replacement of a damaged system). I was recommended the REL Q50 but the Quad is it's successor. It's very compact.

Mine is 1080p mate, you have quoted the PX and mine is the PZ. I've gone for everything in black finish.

    Plasma - £1238.91
    Dvd player - £68.00
    Subwoofer - £230.00
    Amp - £230.00
    Rear speakers - £70.00
Front and centre speakers - £46.00
    Vogel speaker mounts - £24

    Total £1699.91

As I said my mate is providing all cable, connectors and the wall bracket for the plasmosis.

Also I bought this from Argos to put the equipment on for the time being:

    Matrix Black glass

Looking good sir. The amp weighs a fucking ton and the speaker posts can be a bastard to get the cable onto in my experience especially when it is on the shelf and you are trying to work behind it in a confined space.

hmm sounds good.. i might have a dabble at the roof speakers.. but they seem. a bit well naff. and surely they will direct sound downwards and not towards you etc.
