What software to install on new Laptop?

I've just rebuilt my laptop for the 100th time and put Vista Business on it. Before I take an image of it I want to put all the software I need on it.

My laptop is a HP NC6400, 1.83 Intel Core 2 and 1 gig of RAM.

At the moment its got Vista on it and nothing else. What essential software would you install on it? Would you install Nero 8 and all the stuff that comes with it or would you just use the Vista CD burner? Its not my main PC so won't be used that much. Mainly at home.

Probably put Office 2007, Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop 10, VLC player and thats it. Is there something obvious that i've missed off that?

And I use Acronis True Image 11 to make backup images of the entire hard drive, so you might want to throw that in as well. Can be obtained from the "usual places".

i always find i am installing the same things time and time again

imgburn,daemon tools,poweriso (or eqivilent),firefox,winrar

as well as the things you've listed..

TBH i have never thought of making an image of my hard drive!

may look into that now, just got new laptop and its aken 2 nights to stock the thin gup with the usual stuff...

yes it will mate! its a 100% clone of your current HDD! When my HDD screw up or windows screws up I format it and then use the Acronis LiveCD to restore the image and its 100% back to the state it was when I made the backup! Even the icons are in the same place!!
