Question Who Should Fabio Name in his first England Squad?

I believe that Fabio Capello is naming his first England squad today.
Who would you pick to be in the Squad?
Im all for picking players on merit and hate it when England managers pick the players on reputation.
We do have some exciting young English players coming thorugh and we might as well start playing them as soon as possible.

Personally I would be tempted to pick Ashley Young, Joe Hart and David Bentley.
Dave Kitson's name has also been mentioned, not too sure about him as I have never seem him play, but apparantly he is the highest scoring englishman in the premiership this season.
Anyway, any thoughts on who should be in the squad?

It should be players that are proud to wear the shirt.

    So that counts Bentley out.

Ashley Young should get a chance though, I really like Newcastle's Steven Taylor for the U21's, but we are normally top heavy on centre halves.

Beckham, give him the 100th cap, he deserves it.

bentley? out? are you crazy.. he is on top form this season. I do agree though that not playing for the under 21s is crazy!! They should not just play the best players on paper they should play the best players at the time. The in form ones. Also Beckham deserves 100 caps..

Bentley definitely in for me, along with Young. Rob Green MUST be given a chance at no.1, despite his attempts to blow it against Liverpool last night. If not him then old man James to come back in. I think we will obviously see the usual suspects, but I have a strong feeling that we're going to see Wes Brown named in the squad as well. He's been fantastic for United this season, and Capello seems to have been at every United game this year, and with Terry out it won't surprise me to see Wes and Rio in central defence. Not saying this is a particularly wonderful pairing, but just saying it won't surprise me. Can't really see there being any major surprises.

As for Beckham. Well, I think you're all being overly sentimental. Does any player deserve a 100th cap if he hasn't played club football at even a slightly decent level for almost a year, and is quite clearly not match fit, having only been training this year, not playing a competitive game. Personally I don't think he's worthy of a start, but I guess it would be fine for him to come on with 10 minutes to go to get that 100th cap, and then never see him in an England shirt again. If you're going to play conference level football you can't expect to play for England IMO.

Previously I would have agreed, but after seeing game after game of failure it's about time we picked on what players do for England and NOT what they do for their clubs.

Time and time again Beckham has been dropped, and time and time again he comes back to show the passion, pride and fucking quality that we sadly lack.

Gerrard may well play well for Liverpool, just as Robinson "was" for Spurs, Lampard at Chelsea, Ferdinand at Utd - yet time and time again mistakes are made, and they do not seem to give a shit about wearing the shirt.

I would base England games on how they played for England, and if that means picking Beckham whilst playing in a inferior league then fine, because he has proved he is by far a better player than his replacement
