Default Cannabis: Is it a pain-reliever we’ll all be taking soon?

Cannabis: Is it a pain-reliever we’ll all be taking soon?
    31 January 2008
Will it ever be acceptable for us to take cannabis? Once upon a time – and it all started back in 2000 BC – cannabis was recognised as a powerful and effective pain-reliever.

The rest of the story you know, but scientists are wondering if we didn’t give cannabis a bad press. Some are trying to rescue it from its ghetto status and restore it to full medical use as an effective therapeutic agent.

A synthetic version, called nabilone, is often given to cancer patients to help ward off the worst effects of chemotherapy, but will the day dawn when it’s as widely available as, say, aspirin?

Smoking the stuff isn’t a great idea, and a new study discovers – surprise, surprise – that it’s as harmful as cigarette smoking, and can dramatically increase the chances of chronic lung disease. Smoking even one joint a day is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes, the researchers found.

Earlier studies found that 80 per cent who took the drug complained of tiredness, while, paradoxically, half said they couldn’t sleep. Doctors are also worried about the drug’s addictive qualities.

So, pretty much like every other drug, then.

I think they are researching making cannaboid tablets to help with illnesses rather than smoking it, although that is IIRC.

Don't see why it is any better than any other pain reliever out there, so no, I hope not.

I cannot imagine this going any further. The vending machines have nto been sanctioned by the government and the police have said if these come about they will be removing the machines.

Also how effective is this for pain? I partake once in a while. Smoking is bad, so i cook with it. Yet one night when i was a very happy guy, i stubbed my toe. Still fecking hurt liek never before.

The only difference being i had a fit of laughter with it!

I read somewhere that some M.S sufferers found that it was very good at relieving their pain.

I smoked weed every day for about 4.5 years (stopped just over 7 months ago for the health of my lungs) and I can see that it would be a good pain killer, but there are problems associated with it! However I think it should be made available in pill form for MS sufferers and the likes!

One thing I did notice about weed was that is made me very lazy, and I would never do what I needed to do. However I think that if the medications are properly controlled, then it wont have the same effect on medicinal patients (mainly because they wont be smoking about 1/8th every day on average and sometimes 1/4 in one night if at a house party...)

So I do think that it has its benifits, but like everything it must be taken in moderation! Otherwise it will take control of your life! And seeing as im one of those folk that is either on it quite hard or off it completely, I have opted for the off it option!

However if I was the kind of guy that could smoke it in moderation I would still be doing it today!
