i dont know any mate wish i could cook. i enjoy it but im cack at it
I've eaten at a few of their restaurants, Le Gavroche (Michel Roux) and L'Escargot(Marco Pierre White) spring to mind as memorable dining experiences that I enjoyed. I am not impressed by or intrigued to go to Fat Duck (Heston B). A mate went for Valentines last year and wasn't overly impressed; it's all way too gimmicky for my liking.
I read MPW's autobiography on holiday over Xmas and thoroughly enjoyed it although he does have a knack of alienating himself from friends and colleagues, so there must be something about him that people don't like. I admired the fact that he gained such high acclaim at such a young age, but had never been to France lol.
My favorite restaurant at the moment is Roussillon in Pimlico village ran by chef/patron Alexis Gauthier. It's only about 50 covers, which is great as I prefer a more intimate restaurant and both the food and wine are excellent.
Someone you have not included and who I like is Rick Stein. I love the way he cooks and I really enjoy his programmes where he travels to different countries to try their dishes. His style of cooking is such that it's very easy to follow and he doesn't mess around with fancy shape plates or using a blow torch to finish of a dish! Just simple delicious food.
I really like Michael Caines, thought he was excellent in the Italian Job
Delia Smith
Antony Worrall Thompson
Kevin Woodford
Brian Turner
Nigella Lawson ( I like her baps , not the bread variety )
Rick Stein ( I like his style and approach to cooking, but I personally dont like seafood )
I prefer normal chef's who make down to earth food.
Delia Infuriates me especially when she started the How to cook series and took 30 minutes to BOIL and EGG
AWT is a good laugh but has started to sell out and is becoming a Brand
Kevin Woodford Neither here nor there about
Brian Turner (See AWT)
Nigella Lawson makes things too complex some times when simple things work just as well
These are my opinions and I selected the chefs I did for a reason not so people would go but what about so and so or him or what about her
I have heard of about half a dozen of the chef's you have listed, to be honest
although they may be highly regarded they simply dont cook food that people in the real world eat on a everyday basis.
So my vote is based purely on the fact I am aware of them rather than liking their style.
Marcus Waering comes accorss as an extremely talented cock. He really annoys me, something about his arrogance that pisses me off (I know a lot of chef's are arrogant but this guy is something else!)
Heston Blumenthal amazes me, his approach to food is fantastic - although, as Roach touched up on earlier, does seem gimicky sometimes.
Nigella Lawson, Anthony Warell Thompson, Delia Smith and Nick Nairn. I have met Nick when i was working one time.
With a bottle of wine I guess you are looking at around £60 per head. The sommelier is excellent and will assist you in choosing something to suit palate and budget. I would rarely spend more than £35 on a bottle of wine, even on a special occasion. The menu is a little confusing but the staff are very helpful too.
I try to keep my bread intake to a minimum but they serve such delicious fresh bread rolls made with sundried tomato, cheese or black olive to name a few of the selection, that I can’t resist every time the come to the table to offer more (they are complimentary so fill your boots ).
It's perfect for a special occasion for a couple, Valentines or an anniversary but not ideal for big groups of you.
Booking isn't a problem unless you are going on a day like Valentines, oh and service is 12.5%.
