Default Road ban for thumbs-up policeman

It seems some of the coppers really do think they're above the law and taking the piss.

The behaviour of a police driver who gave a thumbs up sign as he tore past speed cameras will not be tolerated, South Yorkshire Police has said.

Officer David Mayes, 34, took his hands off the wheel and made the gesture twice on 999 calls in Sheffield.
He was banned from driving for six months by Halifax Magistrates' Court and fined £400 after admitting driving without due care and attention.

Mayes gives a thumbs-up sign to the speed camera

In December chief constable Meredydd Hughes was banned for speeding.
Hughes was caught driving at 90mph along a 60mph zone and was disqualified for 42 days and fined £350 by magistrates in Wrexham.

    Misconduct proceedings
Mayes was prosecuted for the offences, which took place in the early hours of the morning on 26 July 2007.
Magistrates heard how he passed the camera at speeds of 68mph and 73mph in the 40mph zone on Halifax Road in Grenoside, Sheffield.
He has already been suspended from front-line duties and now faces misconduct proceedings.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "His conduct fell well below what we and the public expect of our officers and he now faces misconduct proceedings. "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated. We have taken a robust stance which has ended with a prosecution and a court appearance."

Corrupt coppers pretty much means ALL coppers. They are human after all. Humans who abuse their positions which makes them cunts, ALL of them.

I reckon theres a good chance it was a sort of ritual pisstake that a lot of them did/do, and he's been made to carry the can.

Shoulda been a years ban with a bigger fine.

why is that article about two separate incidents?

the thumbs up guy legally passed the speed camera on 999 calls, his only crime was making a silly thumbs up gesture. i think that was just a little joke at work and hardly something we need to make a big fuss about

the second part is about another guy all together who was caught speeding off duty and got banned from driving and in trouble with the police, which is fair enough cos they cant be committing crimes off duty then enforcing the law on duty imo

    two planks...
we should make a big fuss, as i have seen in press on previous occasions how joe public has been prosecuted for making gestures at speed cameras, you really do have to be a tosser to do it though..ffs its a camera it takes your picture duh..

the second story though is the best example of double standards, that guy was boss of road safety, and even wants speed cameras to be less conspicious to catch more people. arse!!!

What sort of camera was it anyway? It's a front shot that looks like flash was used.

I thought they didn't flash you head on
