sorry to start a new thread for what may seem like an old problem but it is new!!

i have decided the best thing i can do with my pc is to reinstall windows!
so on attempting to do just this after it loads the setup files it then shuts down and shows me a message a long the lines of

STOP c000021a (fatal system error) logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000139 (0x00000000 0x00000000) system shut down!!

does anyone know what these codes mean????

if i try to boot straight to windows i get another error to stop damage to my computer and the code is
0x00000713, 0xf8cd0524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000 0x00000000

does anyone know what these codes mean??

please help its driving me mad now!!!

looks like a corrupt install/cd
perhaps a format and try again might work

try booting from a floppy drive check program, should be downloadable from your drive manufacturer, run a full scan to check for errors.

i have three different install cd's and on each one i get the same outcome! however one thing i havent done in to format the HD as i cant! if i go into safemode and pick command prompt it bombs out on me before i get to that point and with the install i am not getting the option to format only the information i already have a windows folder, and then it allows me to chose to overwrite it!!

What HD do you have? most have a util cd you can boot from to reformat it.

hmmm i think the HD i have is western digital but not certain will have to take a look in a few minutes!

np m8 - if you d/l the seagate utils/format/setup cd that seems to work with most types of HD's I have tried, boot from that and it should pick up yr drive and let you reformat it.

ok i am now losing the will to live!!!

i have used seatools and the option which it even mentions in the contents, to erase hd does not show up in the advanced options menu where it is supposed to be!!

regardless i did a test on the HD and all was well with that, however now i cant even get the floppy to boot!!! when i turn off my pc, which by the way all of a sudden i can turn it off without having tio hold the button in for 5 seconds or so it just turns staright off!!, well when it come on it does the memory test and the HD primary and such like then instead of spinning the floppy it goes to a blnk screen with a little white plashing line in the top keft corner!!! WTF is going on? is the fact it now turns off on the press of the button, of any significance?
please dont say buy a new one cos i cant afford it!! lol

When you do a fresh install have you tried to delete your partitions and then create new ones, then do a full NTFS format?

Also, you might be able to check your hard drive in your bios, all the PC's at work let you do that?

Worth a try at least. Or you could take the hard drive out, plug it into another PC (a mates if you don't have one yourself) and then format the drive using a 2nd PC? Its a bit messy but easier than faffing about with any software and boot disks etc

yeah was considering just pulling it out and doing a format in another pc, but i am so sick of taking this particular pc apart im really loath to do it! but to be honest right now it looks like the only option i have!! lol

ok i have decided to put the drive in another pc and format it that way! however when i put it in the cd then it shows up at start up when it goes through the bios but it doesnt show up in windows si i cant do anything with it!! any ideas guys?!

hi m8, maybe a long shot, but try re-flashing the bios, this is the bit that does all the talking when your pc boots up, slightest little flaw could be a disaster. worth a try.

if you are putting the drive into another pc make sure the jumpers are set correctly, if it's an IDE drive. ie; master for your main working drive and set the one you want to format to slave, it should then show up in the bios. And once windows has booted right click on "my computer" and then "manage" and then "disk management" and you'll have a few tools to use there including format.

it already shows in bios just doesnt appear in windows! wonder if its so corrupt its not showing as windows isnt seeing it because its all wrong!
anyway i will try this again see if i can get to it the way you have suggested!!

Right click My computer Management > Disk Management
Can right click drive there and format it should show some thing there.
If not think you will need to replace that HDD.

So let me get this straight......

You have wiped the system drive...ie: formatted C:\ ?

If that IS the case then is the Hard drive IDE or SATA ? It's sounds as though you have a SATA drive and you wiped it..so... There are now no SATA controllers installed.

Please enlighten us so we may help you.

no no! its an IDE drive?! which i havent formatted thats what i want to do! but the pc it has come out of is playing up!
anyway i have tried right clicking my computer, there is no option for disk management, the only management mentioned is device manager, so i went in there and the drive does show up on a list but i still cant format it or anything!
thinking its time to quit and throw the drive in the bin!

Assuming XP & Classic View.

Goto Start >
Control Panel>
Administrative tools>
Computer Management> LHS Disk Management>

This should open a nice window with all the Discs shown, you should be able to format,you may need to delete the Partiton first.
