Default 24 officially taking time off

Fox confirms what everyone was thinking: 24 won't be back for almost a year.

If there's one person who knows that time is of the essence, it's superagent Jack Bauer of Fox's 24. However, don't expect to see Mr. Bauer to do anything hastily other than pound a few daiquiris over the next year.

I went to jail over the holidays for nothing.
The show's seventh season was set to begin last January and run without a break, but in November, strike complications forced Fox to delay the season premiere to an unspecified time. Now, Fox has called 2008 a loss for the show and will run season seven in January 2009.

The crew has already shot eight episodes of this season, which sees the action move to Washington, DC, instead of Los Angeles. If Fox had opted to continue production of the show this year, there would have been a lengthy break before the newly produced episodes would air. Because 24 is heavily serialized, Fox wanted to ensure the seventh season was aired uninterrupted.

ABC took a very different tactic with its serialized hit Lost, opting to air the episodes it has now and finish the season with an additional five episodes. However, Lost's original season order was only 16, whereas 24's was appropriately 24.

Star Kiefer Sutherland must be kicking himself now. The actor opted to serve a portion of his jail sentence for a DUI charge over the holidays in order to avoid slowing down the production of the show.

24's seventh season will be the first without cocreator Joel Surnow, who announced earlier this week he was leaving his duties to pursue other projects.

    What a Star!

I was looking forward to some 24 this year too. Joel Surnow is gone, I do hope the next season when it finally arives is worth the wait.

I've still got 'The Shield' to wait for (this year) so it's not a total tv write off for me!

Without wanting to sound like I'm on a soapbox, I'd hardly call going to jail for DUI "nothing"

What he was pointing out was that he decided to do his jail time early so it would not interfere with the shooting schedule, which of course was a moot point because of the writers strike.

But he had to do it anyway though.

Looked around and it looks like he just didn't want to spend New Years Eve and his birthday in prison, and he had a choice of dates to do his sentence.

Im kinda glad the old director has gone, I was growing tired of the old 24, having said that I guess the writers will be the same so not that much will change.

Of course he had to do it!!

The dates he chose wouldn't have interfered with the shooting, but the writers strike meant they couldn't shoot it anyway!! So he could have still done his time later on when was originally going to do it.

Choosing when to do 'jail time' is for the rich and famous.

    Fuckers.
