It's not actually that light and the fact that intel have released the chips to everyone means there'll be other similar products out soon.

After looking at the Apple site I dont think its worth it! You can get PLENTY of small light 13.3" laptops for the same price with MUCH better specs!
For example the £1,199 version has:
# 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
# 2GB memory
# 80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive
# Built-in 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (wireless n standard has not been finalised so it might not work with the finalised version! Keep that in mind.)
# Intel GMA X3100 GFX
# 1 USB Port
# 1.36KG
You can get a 13.3" VAIO SZ series with the following:
# 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
# 2GB memory
# 160GB 5400-rpm SATA hard drive
# Built-in 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
# NVIDIA 8400M GS & Intel GMA X3100 Hybrid GFX
# Wireless WAN Card
# 1Gbps Ethernet Port
# 56Kbps Modem
# Firewire port
# PCMCIA Slot
# Express Card Slot
# Built in Memory Card Reader for Memory Stick Duos
# 8 in 1 Memory Card Reader that Slots into the Express Card Slot if you want to use it
# 2 USB 2.0 Ports
# Fingerprint Reader
# Dual Layer DVD Writer
# Up to 6 hours battery life (going from personal experience, and not just marketing hype)
# 1.79kg
# Carbon Fibre Chassis
all for just £1,370.30
Thats only an extra £171.30 for a whole lot more with just an extra 330g of weight!
I've got the VAIO VGN-SZ61WN/C and its absolutely brilliant! If you really want MAC OS X then you can get a hacked version from the usual places and install it onto a PC!
The worst part about the VAIO is all the bloatware & VISTA! But luckily Sony provide XP versions of all the drivers & software!
So you get the MAC OS with fast hardware for PC money instead of MAC money!

i do like the thinkpad X series its just a shame its so fucking ugly. none of the other ultra portables have the same "oooooooo" factor that the air does imo.
its just so... NICE!
The APP is definately worth its money for the hardware warranty alone, i actually work for AppleCare in Newcastle and i have APP's for all my mac products.
Plus if you decide to get any airport or time machine products your APP will cover that. Be warned though that the battery is not covered in the APP as batterys are "Consumable" products, which basically means that unless Apple have some sort of recall in place for the batterys then onces its dead, you gotta buy another battery
With the macbook air the battery is built in, so if you got the APP you will still need to buy a new battery, but fitting the battery will be covered with the APP.
One other thing is that the cheap "education" support is usually only for either hardware or software support, not both. Hence the lower price, a full APP is only £199 on the macbook air and will give you a 2 year extension on hardware warranty and you also get telephone software supports for that entire period.
Hope you find this useful

iPhone 6 baby...
iMac 24", 2.4Ghz, 500GB, 4GB RAM
Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz, 250GB, 4GB RAM
im thinking of ditching my desktop i dont use it for anything except downloads really
I think this has sold me on the solid state drive in the higher spec'd model:
Although at a whopping £639.00 extra as opposed to the 80gb pata drive it's a hefty price to pay.....................I'm usually pretty quick at making decisions but this is proving to be a difficult one......The 64 GB unit can read 64 MB/S, write 45 MB/s, and consumes just half a Watt when operating (one tenth of a Watt when idle). In comparison, an 80 GB 1.8-inch hard drive reads at 15 MB/s, writes at 7 MB/s, and eats 1.5 Watts either operating or when idle.
