    Default Studio Portraits

I borrowed some studio lighting kit my bro has recently purchased to snap off a few shots of the family. Sadly, my daughter was playing up so it turned into a session of just me and my son. Setting things up and triggering everything with a carefully concealed IR remote, this was the outcome. I used 2 studio flashes, one with softbox and the other with umbrella, and shot everything with my 24-105 L lens.

Wierd... Viewing these pics on my monitor in PS or the std Vista viewer, they look fine colourwise. Opening them here and in the photobucket source seems to wash out the colours on 1, 3 and 4 somewhat. Is it the same for everyone?

Neo, those are really nice shots mate. All very good shots but I must admit, I like the closer ones out of the bunch. The fact you have used Auto-Whitebalance is very pleasing to me because I'm a complete dunce when it comes to understanding the white balance and when to use the pre-defined settings or a custom one.. heh

With regards to the colours. I have also had the same dilemma.

When I take the shot, I'll possibly run it through lightroom just to add a touch of colour boost, vibrancy and Clarity. The end result I see in Lightroom, seems to look different in CS3. Somewhat darker.

What is even more odd, when I post the images on the forum here, they again, take on a slightly different colour temperature. When posting to an NNTP newsgroup, they're different again (looking dull and flat).

I currently have the photo I submitted for this months comp as my desktop background and on my desktop, it looks flatter and duller than what it does if I open it using Windows Picture viewer.

I'm using a Samsung 226BW 22" widescreen panel and an NVIDIA 7950GX2 video card with the most current drivers if this is anything of any use to anyone. I know different video cards and monitors will give varied outputs.

I change everything to sRGB for printing and webposting now. The difference between RGB and sRGB to me isn't that noticable to me. I save the images as jpg after having converted them to 8 bit files from Lightroom. The tiff files I save look different on my PC too. Your monitor will always look different - the brightness and contrast settings are always gonna make it look better than prints - you need to calibrate the monitor with something like Spider Pro or Huey to have even a chance of them looling similar.

    Nice photos though.

    Paul.

So when exporting from Lightroom, you choose the SRGB option?

Nice set of shots, 1 and 5 are the ones i would choose. All nice compositions.
As for the washed out look, they do look the same here, strange.

It is a shame the colours are all washed out mate as the first one is s cracker, did you shot in RAW??? If so it might be worth trying to tweak it a little to bring out some detail in the shadows and boost the colours.

Grand shots but converting them to sRGB should do it fine. I always export as normal from Lightroom and then after any work in photoshop I convert to 8 bit colour and then convert to sRGB profile and then save as jpeg. I used to get dull looking shots till I started doing this and it almost resulted in me binning my 300D till Slarti pointed this one out for me.

Cheers Paul... Worked a treat. I've changed Lightroom and PS to sRGB and redid pic 4 (see the difference)...

I'll sort the other 3 out later (B&W is fine)
