PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 will only have local voice tracks

Ryan Payton has confirmed in the latest Kojima Productions podcast that the European and American versions of Metal Gear Solid 4 will not have the Japanese voice tracks. Likewise, the Japanese version of the game will not have any English voice tracks either. This is apparently down to a lack of space on the Blu-Ray disc due to the large amount of story in the game.

Wait a second, running out of space on a Blu-Ray disc? Well, we knew this would happen at some point but this is definitely earlier than we expected. Our only worry about this is regarding the European release - will it only have English vocals? If so, then non-English speakers might have to settle for subtitles of their mother tongue. Fans of the Japanese language will either have to survive with English or risk importing from Japan and hoping there'll be English subtitles.

surely the 50GB of a DL Blu-Ray disc is enough for everything?!

I can understand that 25GB might be a bit of a struggle, esp seeing as Resistance: FOM was around 18GB in size, but a game larger than 50GB is just OTT!!

The voice track on the yank version is fantastic, my personal feeling is that it's better than the japanese (something I don't usually say) The guy who voices snake is quite famous in his own right, as a writer, bit part actor.

His voice is a perfect match for snake.

what a stupid point, NONE of the other MGS games had foreign voices on, why on earth would they after they hire professional actors to voice it into localised languages!

Im sure theres a ton of speech in it too, so leaving it on, for no reason wouldnt make any sense.

Exactly. And I agree with CueballKrill the english voice acting is great. There was no need to mention that they couldnt add it on to the 50gb Blu-ray.

The trouble with previous MGS games is in my opinion too much story and not enough gameplay. If the above is true then this one will be just as bad if not worse. Obviously the game will be fantastic but christ I hope the allow you to skip all the cut scenes. If I want a film I'll get a film.
If nature always takes the easiest route, what's easier...?
The creation of billions of galaxies each containing trillions of stars each with their own solar systems, some with planets that have evolved civilisations with billions of different life forms. OR The creation of just your imagination?

Your in luck then. One of the new features is to fast forward all those long codec transmissions (I personally dont mind them) and then if you missed anything you can view it in history I think. Im not sure if you can fast forward cutscenes though.

Another feature is the flashback button which shows a flashback clip from past Metal Gear games so it links the story all together for those who may have missed some of it.

its a love hate thing with mgs
    i love it
i love the mad stories, insane characters etc
the whole codec thing blew me away with 1st one (so many ideas out of the box like the psycho mantis port swap etc) tho did get a bit annoying in 2 and 3.
i thought the amount of cut scenes in 3rd one before you really got going was too much
but there was hell of a lot gameplay after it, it just got better and better really
    cannot wait for 4

if you skip the story you only get 25% of the game in my opinion, its like watching a film and skipping all the bits where theres no action.

Too true. I really like the story so I dont miss any of the codec calls or the cutscenes. This will be epic, no doubt about that.

Yeah MGS3: Snake Eater started off slowly but it gathered pace quickly after that. Im looking to pre-order the game aswell for the Metal Gear Online beta. The pre-order campaign only begins in early April with the beta starting on the 21st for two weeks, so im going to wait until all the details are out. It should be like the US where we get the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD if we pre-order it and there is a code for the beta in the box. Best bet is your local GAME store.
