Tech Woo Hoo.. Posted from my Hackintosh !

You may have seen my earlier post asking about running leopard in a Virtual machine on vista...and I found out it's not possible

Well I bit the bullet and installed MAC OSX natively onto a spare drive in my PC.

It was an absoloute piece of piss, I'm running MAC OSX Leopard 10.5.1 natively on my system:

    ASUS Commando MB
    Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo
    4GB Corsair RAM
    SATA HD & CD ROM
    Radeon X1950XT Graphics.

The only stumbler was it initially wouldn't start up due to my graphics card.. so just started it in safe mode, downloaded a hacked driver for my card and pop it fired up first time ! It's now nearly all running perfectly ... still got to suss out the sound driver but all is looking good. Worst case is buy a cheap supported sound card but not given up on inbuilt audio yet !

I've got it dual booting with vista by simply selecting the disc in the bios. to save fooking about with bootloaders/grub etc. I used the Kallyway 10.5.1 DVD (search for OSx86 Leopard 10.5.1 on newzbin) and basic reading of insanelymac.com.

It was literally as easy though as bunging the DVD in formatting the hard disc and watching the install... well worth the play if you're system supports it !

lol...not much of a PC gamer.. so opted for something cheap but capable. It's in a rather nice antec sonata 2 case... now with apple sticker that I got with my phone slapped on the front !!

It's well worth a go.. I much prefer it to vista tbh, runs miles faster and is full of eye candy !

If I can shift my primary apps over I can see it becoming my default OS.

easy... I dropped in a new SATA HD,

Set my bios to boot from SATA CD along with enabling AHCI support for the HD.

Booted up, selected & formatted the HD & watched it install.

Crashed due to graphics card so booted in safe mode with -x switch.. installed driver for Graphics card.

    Jobs a good 'un !

It really is that easy !

The trick is the hardware compatibility... have a read of http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showforum=45 and other forums on there.. there's also a pretty good wiki with hardware compatability lists over at http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

well...I am too posting this on my Fujitsu Esprimo Q5010 pc, used the Leo4all dvd.
Only problem is the sound card, just need to download the drivers from insanelymac, and that would fix that.
Works very well and am going to try and save up some dough to get the real thing.

Sadly me too... The whole OS is just more intuitive than M$ bloat.

    Using Leo4all disk.

well i am now posting from my dell latop running mac os x 10.5.2

very sweet, so much faster than my old G4 powerbook.

only problem's i had, was during the install i had to continually move my pointer about or it would just stop, till it moved it again (no idea why)

and also the dredded "HFS+ partition error" which has cause many people problems (this is caused by having vista on the drive)

I found the following solution incase anyone else has the problem

    Code:
This guide is for restoring our nice, working hackintosh's darwin bootloader.

Basically, Vista RTM foobars our working MBR's bootloader and you get "HFS+ partition error".
In following, I will assume we have one HDD with two partitions: part#1 = OSX and part#2 = Vista

    1. Boot off OSX dvd disc in single user mode (press F8 and type -s)
    2. At single user prompt
    fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
    flag 1
    update
    write
    quit
    4 reboot

At this point OSX should boot up, just like prior to Vista installation.
    1 In a terminal window,
    su root
    fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
    flag 2
    quit
    2 reboot

Vista will say "Windowsystem32winload" corrupted, and it will tell you to insert Vista disc and recover.
Follow directions from Vista and recover, then reboot. Check Vista boots and works fine.

    1. Boot off OSX dvd disc for single user one last time (press F8 and type -s)
    2. At single user prompt
    fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
    flag 1
    quit
    3. reboot

You will discover that Vista recovered and left MBR's darwin bootloader intact

off to grab some up to date mac programs

only thing that not working is the sound, so i'll see what patchs are about for that.
