    the male pins on the gfx card is a bit worrying....

    is it pci or agp...

    pci = white slot

    agp = brown slot

    keep trying m8..

    Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean
    the same thing?

    maybe worth trying to reset the PSU

    to do this;
    Hold in the power button, remove the power lead.. wait 5 seconds, reconnect the power lead while still holding in the power button, wait around 20 seconds and release the button, the PSU should do basically whats its doing now (power then fail) thats the PSU reset!
    Now try switching it on as normal

    hmmmm just turned it on now to try the whole reset thing!! and it gave it a damn good go at starting up! i rekon a good five seconds before it went off!!
    now i noticed a smell........and im sure it was coming from the power supply!! dont have another PS to test it though well i do, the one on this computer im using but i dont really want to take this thing apart!! probably going to have to!
    my concern is that the PSU was ok, and the only reason im messing with the PC is the MB went, im just concerned there could be something wrong with my PSU in the, isnt compatable area, but this isnt the case is it? i mean ATX PS units are all the same no?

    mate i think it's your PSU, I would (personally) bite the bullet and take the one out of the PC your using and give it a go!!

    yea should be ok compatibility wise, this is the best simple PSU guide i can find without typing my ass off

    Just something to check. When you screwed your new board to the case make sure none of the boards soldering is touching the case, another thing is to put a little insluation between the board and the screws, a bit of tape will do. From yor initial post it does sound like there is a short somewhere, modern day boards do come with voltage protection so it should be OK, unless the board is completely knackered. Might just be worth checking.

    this gets stranger and stranger!!
    ok took all the pci boards out and my agp, disconnected the drives so really the only thing that was being powered was the board, it still didnt work...took the power supply out of the computer, as i didnt have it in when i originally tried it and it worked, and lo and behold it worked!!!!??? attached the drives and it still worked put in the agp card and it still worked however not getting a signal to the monitor so dont actually know if it s booting, it actually doesnt sound like it to be honest, when it turns on the HD spins up but i cant hear it doing much else after that! besaides the fact im not getting a picture from the pc to the monitor is a problem in its self!! but as i say right now it powers up, but the PSU is on the desk!!! lol

    remove the ram

    if the system beeps means the board and CPU is detecting that there is no memory installed so means they are working to a certain extent

    dose that Old pc work?

    test the graphics card with that and if possible borrow its graphics card to test in this system.

    hi TR...have tried it with no ram! i get no beeps at all, the old pc worked to a degree, but just kept failing on me! replaced pretty much most of it with no luck and in all honesty the only thing left to replace was the MB, lol.
    graphics card is from the old system and it has been no where since i took it out to put it on the new board!

    sounds like the board or proc is not working can you test the proc in the other system if that works think you might have to get the board swapped over.

    power supply could have killed it if there was a fault with that.

    ok right i wasn't getting any bleeps because the bloody case speaker wasnt working!
    have swapped the processors over and still no joy, but as i said, i actually dont think the processor is compatable with the board i put it on!
    put a different processor on the board i am trying to get sorted and it still didnt work! nor did i get any output to screen from the vid card!
    put old board and old processor back together and that tried to boot and gave me output to screen.
    so new board doesnt boot nor does it give output to screen.
    as for beeps, well even when i sorted the internal speaker i had no beeps more of a clicking sound, i actually thought it was the HD initially, and ther eis about six of them but very fast and close together so cant be sure it is six!

    Right so board and proc appear to be working
    What Ram do you have? and do you know if it works?

    Try adding one dim at a time and test each port to see if the memory beeps change and

    then add the graphics card see if thos beeps change

    you should have a manual with your motherboard that tells you what all the codes mean.

    this goes from bad to worse!!
    ok i decided to try the processor off the other board, the one im trying to get working, in my main pc, and it didnt work......more importantly than that, when i put my own cpu back in my main machine that wouldnt work either!! basically doing the same thing as the other board...turning on but not trying to boot or put output to screen! so i can safely say the cpu is fecked.....have been out today and bought a brand new board for my main computer and installed it and put in my cpu and it works fine! so i am figuring the cpu did something to my board? is this possible!
    think the upshot is the board i am trying to get working along with the cpu on it are fecked! and i should just give up!!!!
