Google maps on iphone

I have 1.14 iphone and use google maps, I am going to Thailand and when I google map it ,its all in the thai language, in fact all the countries are language specific. There must be a way to display english place names/ road names etc, I think you can on the PC version. Any help appreciated..

searches i tried "lady boy Pat Pong" "ping pong pat pong" "Penninsula Hotel" all according to iphone google maps do not exist in Bangkok!!

update: went into apple store and they said it was not supported yet. hmmm, but if you use web based google maps and set up a gmail account you can change language options to english. Or I could my trusty tomtom on my 6630 with thailand maps. Just thought I'd share the info.
