Mercedes A Class - Mileage and coding change

hi folks

I want to be able to alter the milage on my Mercedes A Class 1999 - I dont want to just do it once so think it best if i can get hold of the equipment and do it myself.

I also want to be able to do a coding change to make changes to how the alarm functions, also known as the netherlands alteration to make it beep

As im just doing this for one car cost is an issue, can anyone advise what i need and the cost?

just the name of a cheap interface and the software would be fine

There is nothing cheap to do what you need to do. Cluster has probably a HC11 micro at your age of vehicle though it could have 912. As for your alarm, visit someone with Star Diagnosis.

yes im in a very remote location, which is one of the reasons i wish to do it myself

as far as im aware the alteration for milage can be done through the diagnostics port

what do you term as not cheap?

Clone diga and merc cable from China. About £400-00 delivered from what I have seen.

i cant believe that in this day and age of cheap chineese products that the cheapest device is circa £400
someone could make an awful lot of money selling one of these things cheap, its not as though they cost a fortune to make

They'll make a lot more money selling them at a higher price! Mileage kits are £7k+ for a good one and those that have them will charge £60-00 to £100-00 to do a plug-in correction like yours.

youre missing the point
if the products were say £30 then people that actually have the cars would buy them and do the work themselves rather as the people that have the businesses of working on the cars, who are out numbered by a significant factor - so the people that make the devices would sell many many more direct to the consumer

sell 1 at £7000 or 1000 at £30....seems logical to me
