    Photos Spider waiting...

This litle spider was maybe waiting for something - not food, he's a web spinner, so laying in the moss and soil seems out of the ordinary. If you look closely, you can see his eyes...

    He's looking at something...

Didn't dare move the obstructing mossy bit over his head, or he'd have scarpered, so had to leave it in unfortunately.

Great shot mate. Any tips on taking good macro shots without a ring flash?

I use a standard flash with a diffuser and also dial in -1 stop exposuree on the flash (when I use flash that is).

How does that work? you flash your ring to distract the spider?

Bilbo, how close do you actually need to be with the 105? I understand with a dedicated Macro lens, it allows for the photographer to be a little further away from the subject.

What are you average shooting distances, ie the physical distance you are from the subject?

The images below are with the 105 Ian.

The toy dog is 4cm long from tip of nose to back end.

To fill the frame the edge of the lens was 31cm away from the subject, and the nearest I was able to get was 12.5cm.

To get nearer, I use extension tube combinations and sometimes a large crop to isolate when I can't get near enough to fill the frame.

    No crop used.

    Hope that helps.
