Question Fuel Prices (Diesel, Petrol, LPG etc)

    Hi Peeps,

Just popped into my local petrol station to find that the price for a ltr of Diesel is 115.9....I get a fuel allowance from the government as I use my car for approx 20-30k miles per year, however the rate I get tax relief hasn't increased for some years yet the price of fuel has increased significantly.

So the reason for my post is find out if there is a North and South or even a regional price difference and to gauge other members thoughts and hopefully local prices. The price 115.9 is the cheapest in my area using a well know website to check local prices.

Remember the government don't like theft of any kind....as they don't like any competition!

cheapest Diesel I've seen "Oop North" is 112.9 and normal unleaded 104.9

How on earth do you get a fuel allowance from the government? - I do over 20k a year business mileage and all I get is a little bit of tax back every year which covers the difference between the Inland Revenue's Approved Milage rates (40p for first 10k miles then 25p afterward) and the amount my employer pays per mile - which is at the Inland Revenue Advisory Fuel Rate of 19p/mile cos I drive a petrol car with over 2000cc engine.

So basically I can claim the tax (at 20%) back on 10000miles at 21p/mile (40p - 19p) which works out to about 4p a mile hard cash plus the remaining mileage at 25p-19p = 6p and works out to about 1.2p/mile

SIgn up at petrolprices.com they send you an email every so often with your cheapest local petrol and you can also check a radius from a given postcode.

forecourt near me doing 112.9 diesel and 103.9 petrol!

what i really want to know is how the fuck diesel has ended up so much more than petrol ion a few months!! last year it was a penny dearer now its well 10p or just over 40p a gallon!

now correct me if im wrong BUT the goverment increased fuel duty by x amount NOT diesel by x amount and petrol by x amount! so i figure the retailers have created the gap themselves?!! and make way more profit on diesel!!

Funny how numbers of consumers driving diesels rockets, very very very closely followed by massive hikes in diesel prices.

That's the site I have used. Whilst their prices are mostly correct I found that there is a delay when the prices change at the pumps as the price mentioned on their site is not what's at the pumps.

    Still a good site.

    Crazi,

I remember when the price of Diesel was almost a 5th cheaper than Leaded fuel....now look at it...It's because soooo many people have swapped to Diesel and the Government need to recover funds after selling our gold stocks off at a massive loss which will and will continue to affect all UK residents......

The average price for unleaded 10 years ago was 54p.................

It makes we want to jack it all in as I don't want to add anymore to the Robbers coffers.

Over recent weeks I have done some major traveling over the UK. I have been all over the place from Glasgow to Brighton (with the exception of London). I must confess i was surprised to find that there isn't much variation in "cheapest" price, no matter what part of the country you are in. At the moment if you can find a 113.9 you are quite lucky. 114.9 is quite common and 117.9 is quite common for the major road establishments. 120+ piss take prices reserved for your remote areas and motorway services.

However, basically the bottom line is there isn't much difference from cheapest to most expensive where ever you are in the UK (with some obvious exceptions, like the big smoke)

watford is the cheapest in england i think! i paid 111.9 for diesel today my friend from birmingham said its a lot cheaper than up there, i live in central london and its 118.9. dont ever look at petrol to notice the prices.

i listened to an intresting talk show on talk sport and a guy on there said the gov are tucking us up by making us pay a tax on a tax. broke down into english

    deisel costs 111.9

of that for instance 60p of it is gov tax. take that away and your left with the product price of which we should pay VAT on, but we dont we pay VAT on the 111.9 so paying vat on a tax as well as a product. allthough this al sounds dodgy as fuck nothing will ever get done about it.

oh and i couldnt possibly remember what u/l was ten years ago!! lol

106.9p is the usual lowest price for unleaded around here although it is higher in a lot of places (Essex).

cheapest here in lowestoft, suffolk i have seen is 105.9 for unleaded at a shell station, the 24hr BP and Tesco are charging 108.9 which is 2p up on last week, its disgusting how these prices continue to rise alongside household bills but wage increases are not in line,
