    Question Code 12 for display adapter

    Hi,
    I have windows vista home premium 32bit on a sony vaio laptop and it's been recently saying in my device manager that my diplay adapter (mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family) "The device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code 12). If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."
    I've upgraded the memory and that hasn't worked. My laptop won't go to sleep and the pre-installed games run really slow.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Ok give these a whirl;

    In the BIOS of your machine see if you can Auto assign resources rather than have them specified (probably already are but check)

    goto run, type msinfo32 then expand hardware resources on the left, choose conflicts /sharing then on the right find if there's anything relative to your display adapter.. see what resources its sharing (or attempting to) and with what other device.

    do you have a specify AGP aperture size in you BIOS?

    I've tried looking for the conflicts and I can't see my media card. I don't know how to check the BIOS auto assign resources or the AGP aperture size (sorry am no good with computers lol). When I go on display settings, and go on advanced settings there is no information available about my adapter.. don't know if this helps?

    Dunno about vista, but I had the same problem with my work laptop under W2000 and a WiFi card. I googled for an answer and the concensus was a re-install. I couldn't do that so I can't say whether it would have fixed it I'm afraid.

    well first off what shit online guides they have on Sony's site.. nothing relating to the BIOS of interest at all..

    someone out there must be using a Vaio similar to this one that can help out?!?!

    try this... press F2 when you turn on your laptop and you should enter your BIOS setup, have a ganders about and if you can write down some options and post them back here..
    Basically we want to either make it automatically assign resources or at least disable a few (unused devices) serial ports, etc and see what the differences are..
    you didn't add anything new before this started happening?
