im just trying to do a D2c with an argon
at the moment using an M12 12W Antex iron with stock tip (0.5mm)
the ICs are impossible to solder with this end!
does anyone use the 0.5mm tip?

I use the 15w iron with the 0.5mm tip - my weapon of choice. I find the 12w a little too underpowered, although the weller 12w is great.
Get a no clean rosin flux pen from maplin(then apply to the ic), tin the wire and clean the iron.
Then put the wire where you want it and hold the clean iron just under it on the ic and it will meld beautifully.
edit: Also a tub of tip tinner is great for those new tips.

ah biggie already knows again, I use the lower pictures style. It then gives you the option of putting a blob of glue on top so the wires are fixed to the top of the IC. Ive tried the other way but never found to very easy. Remember to always work towards yourself too, so you are not holding the iron over already solder points and as ruggie says, flux is essential.
i solder to the base of leg
all people find diff methods easier than other
I do mine over the top, The pins are bit of a pain esp when your knackered or cross-eyed from looking at something so small.
I got showed to solder the legs of the chip first to tin them and remove the solder with braid (Scary as fook the first time you do it but works a treat) Tin the wires and apply a little flux with the pen, then solder the wires to the pins. The wires stick well. Just wish the pins were big like on the old ps2 installs lol.

what about the alt diagrams...
they use points on the other side of the board.
I use 0.25mm tips and a Weller 2012 (12w) iron.
0.6 mm tip here and over the top method - good luck biggy
original intel macbook black 2006, macbook air 2011, PS3, XBOX360, nintendo wii, 3ds, psp, iphone 5 32gb, itouch 16gb, Vu+duo, Samsung TAB2, various laptops Ubuntu
Or you can just get the sp1 flash add on and solder it to a d2pro 9, theres pics of a guy having done that already, joy
be careful with those alt points - they are so tiny and they have VERY thick film of solder resist on them , is very easy to wreck the via's
as pizzaman will confirm :-), just one of the various times he's bailed me out lol
well just done 2 argons in d2cs
did the first one with a 0.5mm tip, was ok
did the second with the 0.12mm tip, much much easier, but! these tips wont last long i reckon,
i use a mix of image 1 + 2 this way the wires are not all crushed on one side. i alternate on each wire.
use a clip if u aint t good at soldering
true modders dont recommend the clips!
ive seen soo many people damage their Ic legs trying to use these clipss, they aint worth it imo
get a decent 9 wire mod and get a pro to install it
nothing cant beat a bit of solder
with the clips you are relying on 2 pieces of metal touching and we all know from the xbox1 days (spider mod) that it ain't reliable
just my 2p worth
i use a station with a 0.5mm tip.
i solder to the base of the leg like in pic one.
