The latest rich-list from Japan has been published, and who sits at #1? None other than the retired Nintendo chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi. Over the last 12 months, his net worth soared by a massive $3bn US - due to the strong performance of Nintendo stocks (which in turn was due to the strong performance of the Wii & DS).

He is now worth an approximate $8bn US - not bad for a long time chairman of a company that makes (all types) of games.

Ironically, it was his retiring (after 55 years at the helm) that gave Satoru Iwata the chance to put his mark on the company - with the first products being the DS & Wii.
