Whats my options?

I moved in to a temporary flat until a house sale goes through. I'm using a three card on my n95 as a modem which someone on here kindly suggested. It works fine but the speed is shite as I'm used to downloading movies etc .

The flat has a phone line but I don't think it's active. I don't really want to fuck about with getting the phone line up and running as I won't be here long (hopefully).

Whats the best and cheapest way to get a faster connection for downloading etc?

I recommend getting your self a balaclava a cordless drill and 100M of network cable i am sure you could fined a router you could latch your self on to for educational purposes of course.

Got to be someone elses wifi. Every fucker does it. Get Netstumbler and have a root as to what is available and off you pop onto the person stupid enough to leave themselves wide enough open for you.

some flats..high rise tower flats have cable fitted right to every flat! in some areas ne'way tenant's somtime just dont notice its there and its nearly always live or can become so very easy ....have you checked?

It's a flat about 400 yards from Stirling Castle. I don't think they have cable up here. I've searched for Wifi already using the standard search thingy on my laptop. I'm only finding one wifi and it's a Livebox LC30.

It's security encrypted though. Is it easily hacked or is too much hassle.

Also are those antennae dishes much good for getting signals and what range do You get. I'm sure some fucker would have an unencryped signal in Stirling but I suppose it would depend on the range

aircrack-ng will break into wep encrypted networks in about 15mins... (provided you have the right hardware)

Okay after reading some of that tutorial it looks like I'll have to move to Linux.

How different is it from windows and in your opinions is it better? If so why?

nah, just download the aircrack linux virtual machine (http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php#virtual_machine) and run it with vmware player for windows (http://www.vmware.com/products/player/)

the important thing though is that you have a compatible usb wireless adapter. make sure it's got linux support (http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?...vers&s=usb#usb).

if it's listed here as having linux support it can 'inject' packets onto the network. this causes the router to send hackable data back to you. without this injection method you will have to wait until you've sniffed enough hackable packets... turning a 15 minute job into a couple of weeks...

managed to get Vmware on with the Air crack running, looks fine.

Just need to install my wireless adapter for my Intel 3945 Wireless card downloaded the drivers from that link for it.

just can't figure out how to install the drivers or even find them in the Vwmware

the vmware image only has support for usb devices built in. i don't know whether it's possible to get pci cards working with it, most likely it is but i'm no linux guru either.
