    Question DNA testing question

A good friend of mine is going for custody of his youngest daughter (11) They are not married but has been there as a father for all the girls life. His eldest daughter (13) is always bullying the youngest and the mother doesn't do anything about it.

The youngest wants to live with her dad but the mother is refusing. He has started court procedings but his solicitor says he must go for both children.

Anyway to cut a long story short, he is not sure the eldest daughter is his. Is there anyway a company would do a DNA test to find out if the eldest is his?

Can you not get it done at a hospital or your GP?

All they need is a sample of blood from both people, then they can send it away to a lab for testing....

There are 100's of companies that offer DNA testing, average turnaround time being 14 days.

As it's for a civil case, somebody is going to have to pay.

For those scared of needles, a simple mouth swab is more than adequate as a sample for testing.

just wondering how the law would see it! would he need permission form the mother (just a thought and not to throw a spanner into the works!)

You can do the sample discretley and just with the father and child, but it is more accurate if the mother also gives a sample.

A mate of mine was in a similar situation a couple of years ago as the csa were chasing him and he wasn't sure he was the bio dad.
At the time, the CSA told him the dna test would cost £900!.. and if it was proved he was the bio father, they would add this cost to his payments.

He eventually took a private test for around £100 and apparently this wasn't acceptable in a court due to traceability etc.. but it came back negative, so he took up the CSA's option for a test and again, it was negative so he didn't have to pay the money they wanted.

Online kits are ok for general testing, but I think it has to be more stringent for law.
