    Help BT wiring. Help needed

    Hi Fellaz
I had a dialler fitted during an alarm install but never got it connected up as the fitter had never dealt with a home install only companys, apparently the bt box had too many wires and every attempt killed my broadband connection, I told him we might need to put a filter in the dialer/alarm panel but he had never had to use one before (if dialler was hard wired to back of bt box) ! so it just got left out

I had a look today at the bt box and can't work out the coding used, anyone have a bt box wiring diagram

My main box also runs another bt box so there will be extra wires for that..

    Thanks in advance

You usually have two wires connected to the very back of a BT box (white blue & blue white - terminal a & b), on the front of the box where you run extensions from it is 6 terminal 1- 6, I think you only need 2 & 5 connected in parallel (1-1, 2-2) but it wont do any harm in connecting all 6 terminals in parallel.

You will have to filter the dialler, youre right.

Thats may be how it is in Ireland, but over here the white/blue wire is the tip. The blue/white wire is known as the ring wire...as in tip`n`ring. The purpose of this pair of cables is to carry a -50v DC current from the exchange to you and back...so effectivly when the phone rings, you pick up the handset, the ciruit now is complete and you are physically connected to BT.

The white orange wire is used to generate the ringing, but only in the event a capacitor is absent in the socket. I f you have a capacitor then theres no need for it.

    numbering is:
    pin 2 : Blue/white
    Pin 3 : white/orange
    pin 5 : white/blue

The other wires are left spare. They are used if the wires in use develop a fault...a backup if you will.

Now, to the OP...filter the dialler. Plain and simple.
