Autosmart Tardis is the stuff you want, you can buy autoglym intensive tar remover also 375ml for about £5 in halfords.

If I can find a small enough bottle I will send you some Tardis if you want. I bought 5L of the stuff for £12.50

I use Auto-Glym Tar & Adhesive remover for that sort of thing - works well.

I have stolen money from a DF member and a member of Disqworld. All my personal details including families details are on file and will be made public to everyone if I do not refund the money I stole or send the goods I promised. My name will be ravaged across the net and the consequences will be severe if I do not sort this fucking mess out.

The key here is "damage the paint work".

If you don't care about this, then petrol, white spirit and t-cut will do the job .

However, there are plenty of products available which will remove tar without damage to the paint work. I would suggest you use something like that which people have already suggested on here - autoglym, etc.

I have used petrol and have to say that it's the best at wiping tar straight off. However, it also eats away the top layer of your car's "varnish".

ITR works it just works out expensive if you need to do a few applications. get some old but clean and soft cotton toweling (terry nappies are brillaint) cloth soak a bit and dab it on the tar spots, let it soak in to the spot and soften it. you will see the tar start to streak down the side of the car then wipe it off it should just come off easily. Don't go scrubbing at the tar or you will scratch the paint surface. If it doesnt all come off just repeat the process a few times until it all comes off without any effort.

The ITR will also remove most tough spots on alloy wheels too.

Just make sure you wash the car fully after as the stuff stinks.

    another edit
an old cloth as the only way id to bin it after, if you try to wash it your washer will stink for a week

    Aint that the truth?
My Mrs found this out the hard way with some cloths soakedin white spirit. All the washing stunk of white spirit for weeks, the smell went whenthey dried, but the washer absolutely hummed.
