    Default Bristol, owt good there?

Its mine and a mates birthday 4 days apart this month and he wants to go somewhere for the weekend to celebrate, I couldn't care less to be honest but I'll got for a laugh.

Someone suggested Bristol but I know for a fact there's absolutely no thought gone into that decision whatsoever so I wondered if anyone local on here could give us a few pointers of what to expect.

    Cheers

There's an Imax cinema, a science museum, loads and loads of pubs, a harbour, students, a short bus drive from all the stuff in bath. Just came back from there on holiday, what sort of things do you want?

i live in bristol, lots of pubs, quite a few brian dead morons, but they don't go to places I go to so i'm happy. Lots of cider, everything is centralised by the harbourside excpet for gloucestor road, which has a good selection of clubs and pubs for itself.

what exactly would you want? might be easier to answer...

well its gonna be 3 - 5 lads, 2 who have a birthday so im presuming its beer on the menu, then failing to pull and then slopeing off back to the hotel to take it in turns to wank in the shower.

    maybe too much detail there

basically just wanted to know the areas to drink, any decent clubs, is it overly trendy and expensive? none of us are millionaires at the moments as we went to budapest a few month or so ago and the excess cash went there really.

Suggestions for other places would be welcome too, were in Chesterfield, so basically closer, the better but I'm happy to travel a fair way, if they're not its tough shit.

Pretty sure the imax has closed now along with @ Bristol (science museum place), but you lads wouldn't be into that anyway, best bet is get by the harbourside as previously mentioned for a few bevvies then slip off to one of the clubs (central chambers strip club a stones throw from harbour). Last year i did a booze cruise round the harbour which was really good fun, the boat stopped in about 7 pubs then we went off to a nightclub

the ferry runs up and down the harbour all day - but stops @ 6pm.

909 if u want a list of good pubs I can send u one over. It's not that expensive down here, some places are a bit different.

The Apple - a cider boat, doesn't move, has just cider on draft and some stuff's so strong u can onyl get it in halves (but thats more of a gimick), leads out to..
The old duke - jazz/folky type music, on cobbled streets, drink outside in a big cummunal area which links up two pubs and a bar, leads to...
king street - good curry/pub food, more old style pubs, cobbled streets, leads to..
harbourside - lots of bars, full of people, tons of slags and twats, cheaper but not by much than everywhere else. All bars are in converted warehouses & go up quite high, they're alright - better than ur averages yateses etc... leads to...
fountains - lots more bars, less pubs, strip club, retro 80s club... splits of to... stokes croft/gloucestor road - clubs, lots of pubs and some bars.. a bit of a walk/ taxi but there's a lot going on up there.
    or leads to... park st/clifton...
more expensive bars, some pubs, park st is alright for a general gathering night out, keeps most happy. Some clubs, some underground, some above places. carries into..
clifton - little more money, students everywhere, girls are prettier, lots of places to go, can recommend the coronation tap - supposed to be a locals only thing but fu(k it, all are welcome - cider pub mostly. other good places, all up whiteladies road.

i'd recommend bristol but i live here and i'm not stupid. Friendly people, not too expensive, walkable - even if ur lost - just ask someone, minimal chance of trouble unless u look/ask for it.

thats enough for now - better go do some work.

ps, there's also Theckla, Fleece, lousiana, fiddlers, the croft and some more, all good clubs and all vaguly central - bristol's 'compact'.

As for Brizzle, depends what sort of thing you are looking for and what you generally do on a night out! The pubs are a laugh and not too expensive, I dont drink but my mates would probably recommend you go for the smaller grottier looking places to get the best ales and draughts and (as whatnow said) ciders - loads of courage brewery and st austell taps. The clubs are really diverse which is one of the things that makes Bristol a clubbing capital. if you are after cheesey house/chart/trance stuff then you have your typical clubs like Syndicate (blackpools much younger and smaller sister) and Oceania and underground dance music like breaks/D&B/hard styles etc then there are some hidden gems lakota, trinity and black swan - grotty and grimey - how they're supposed to be lol!

incidentally, when are you down? my club night is the 20th... come and visit us! we'll look after ya! </shameful plug>

    Ange x

EDIT- Oh and im sure that theres a cider farm on the outskirts somewhere? possibly near Backwell but i could be wrong!

cheers all, i think it is the 20th that we plan to celebrate as me mates birthday on the 21st,
although after talkin to one of the lads last night about it, it seems it will be a right balls up unless someone arranges it (ie me)

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel, preferable one that isn't going to get upset when a bunch of lads collapse on their foyer floor in a pool of piss and vomit.
