Sci-fi is out of fashion at the moment.

Films like Babylon AD are due out this year but nothing big for the next 12 months.

As you say most of the recent sci-fi flicks have been lame remakes so the punters aint interested anymore.

Main focus is on comic conversions for the next 2 years... that is where the money is. Lets face it they remade Hulk in less that 5 years... ridiculous!

geeky as it sounds, i enjoy a decent sci-fi fix as long as they don't try and turn it into a horror (e.g. event horizon).

Another chronicles of riddick would be fantastic.

So no takers on the new Star Trek? Although it's hard to enjoy anything based on a series without extensive prior knowledge, and some of the recent STs have been pants if a little pretentious maybe. Sunshine was the last half decent SF thing I've seen.

It's a shame that the new Trek film is based on the original series, as I've never been a fan....but either way, I'm gonna watch it.

It's true though...getting a decent standalone spaceship type film is quite difficult these days.

The new Star Trek will be decent I think. Other than that you guys are right - it's all quite quiet at the moment on the sci-fi front. I think movies like The Matrix pushed the genre quite hard and people are struggling to come up with new ideas.

Serenity was pretty damned awesome - and probably the last good sci-fi movie I thought was any good.

Man i agree we need new sci-fi its pretty much the only genre apart from shit comedies that i actually enjoy. i just started watching xfiles from s01e01 in preparation for the movie. Gotta say its worth the download, some of the early episodes are pure class..
