I'm frugal with my resources and have always been like that, I also close process' in taskmanager if I'm not going to use certain apps during a session that TSR themselves.. I know I could set up different profiles, but can't be arsed lol. The exclamation through my avg is because V8 is bloated so I've disabled certain 'functions' like auto-update etc.

    Please dont make bad assumptions

As for memory usage 1.2GB out of 3GB on a 8 day uptime system.
If you've got the power, use it - if not then dont... but don't tar everyone with the same brush
i'm not wrong. i won't explain why - no point

What did I say about assumptions?

Battery powered RAMDrive.. Near instant access and fast read/write speeds.. No seek times (Well Minimal)
But Obv I'm just a clueless amateur who has no idea about hard drives, seek times, transfer rates, etc.. the importance and situations where its preferable to and the pros and cons of it?

Even though I respect the work youve done on DF and everything, I'm still calling BS on your post here..
    No explanation and assumption

Not really feeling the need to justify my usage to the internet either, either you call BS on what I say or not - I'm losing no sleep over it..

obviously or you wouldn't have upgraded to the release version of vista and you wouldn't have a windows security alert on there too lol

you'd also know that ram drives don't actually offer that much of a performance increase either. they're still bottlenecked by SATA technology limitations... maximum transfer speed of sata 2 is 300Mb a sec... the same speed as most sata drives on the market nowadays lol admittedly your ram drive will see a slight benefit if you're copying large fragemented files or doing lots of seeks (which you would at boot time). but you would see a bigger performance increase if you split your windows install over 4 separate disks like i have... one for windows, one for program files, one for profiles and one for your paging file... by doing this you're effectively increasing your maximum throughput from 300MB sec to 1.2GB a second. loads faster than any ram drive on the market...

I have only netlimiter on startup.
But from there I am normally running MSN Messenger and bitcomet or grabit at some point.
Steam is in there as well if im playing CS and sometimes have that annoying USB icon.

This is one of my work ones, not sure what the 'C' one is?? It goes away when you hover over it and then comes back again?

None of you will get the red mouce one, it's a work internal app.

Security center alert is through uninstalling threatfire and it not removing itself from the Security center as well as me not using UAC. Cheers for letting me know about that

Fair point with regards to interface limitations but its not really the crushing factor considering that most HDDs wont hit nowhere near that speed and with RAMDrive its still alot faster and with lower seeks.
In an ideal world id have a Intel Extreme quad core processor, 8gb of DDR3 and some of those new ATI 4870s in Crossfire or the X2s when they come out?
But this isnt an ideal world - I dont want 4 hard drives because I'm not that bothered about nor do I need that amount of speed. Also in an ideal world you would have 1.2GB sec max throughput but you forget that the HDD (being mechanical) is the limiting factor as they only reach (From my memory around 140MB/sec) per drive Max and thats not even sustained transfer...

4 Hard drives = More power, more heat and more messing around, which is totally overkill for my workstation.

My PC runs fast enough, plays the games I want to play and does what it needs to.. end of

Newsleecher, Network, Outlook, Activsync, NOD32, Ultramon, Network, Bluetooth, DU Meter

Obviously Newsleecher & Outlook get kicked when not in use, but wanted to show what it's like most of the time.

Think he means processes, not actual icons in his system tray!
